SAT - PSAT Correlation

Hi all,

I took the PSAT this year (11th grade) and got a 236.

I'm taking the SAT this saturday with no prep/studying.

Can anyone give me a realistic score range to expect? If it helps, I also barely studied for the PSAT, I just crammed some writing practice the night before.

Thank you in advance.

You’ll probably do really well (2300+). I got a 210 (77 W 68 CR 65 M) and a 2030 in December. I hadn’t done much practice wtih the SAT until about a month ago and, although practice tests are obviously not the real thing, I’ve taken 6 of the ones in the book in prep for Saturday’s test and my scores fluctuated a bit, but my low was my first 1 (2170) and my high was the last one I took (2300), so I think practice makes a large difference. Again, you already did very well so you’ll proly be good to go on the real thing.

I’m a sophomore right now, took both tests this year without prep.

203 on PSAT, 2040 on SAT
so using my scores as an example, you’ll probably do great

Thanks for the replies and good luck!

Anyone else have a perspective to offer?

If you haven’t even taken a practice test, I’m a little skeptical. I know some people who scored 23x on the PSAT and went into the SAT without preparing at all and scored 2100-2200

Watch out for harder math questions and test fatigue; other than that, I’m sure you’ll be fine! 2200+, I’m sure.

I agree with Latency. A lot of people improve from their PSAT to their SAT, but that’s usually with studying. I personally have found the SAT a fair amount harder than the PSAT, especially in math and CR. That said, my first few practice tests were still around the range of my PSAT (223). If you got a 236 then you’re obviously quite smart, so I would just give it a go and if you don’t do well, just retake it.
