How well do SAT scores correspond with PSAT scores?

Hey,

I'm currently a junior. We got our PSAT scores last month and I found that I had gotten a 232 which was a big surprise because I got 197 last year as a sophomore. The only serious studying I did was take a bunch of practice tests.

Now I'm taking the SAT for the first time in March. I'm really scared of going in there with way too much overconfidence and completely bombing it because I never took a prep class, and pretty much stopped studying after PSAT scores came out.

I was wondering if some people might be willing to share their PSAT and SAT scores (all tries, when they took them, etc) in addition to how they prepped for the SAT given their PSAT score.

I would especially like to know if SAT scores generally reflect your PSAT score and/or if a lot of people experienced a huge drop in their SAT score from their PSAT score. Also, if SAT scores were way higher than PSAT scores, please share that too.

Thank you so much in advanace=) Any and all advice/input is greatly appreciated.

edit: woops wrong thread

but might as well post

PSAT 218
First SAT 2280

prepped with an expensive course for SAT, i guess it worked for me though. Note that I was originally scoring lower than PSAT before course -- first practice test was 1980 i think? Also, my worst PSAT score became my best SAT score.

I think that most people naturally peak around the length of the PSAT. On the SAT you start getting tired after the length of a PSAT has passed, you become less concentrated.

PSAT: 216
First SAT: 2100

I'm retaking and hoping for a 2200.

PSAT:
First Time: 216
Second Time: 220
SAT: 2200

The CR/W average was 700 in every case too, so i guess my scores were pretty consistent

PSAT: 201
First SAT: 2070
Second SAT: 2230

PSAT: 226
SAT: 2310
Just keep doing practice tests to reinforce what you know. gluck!

PSAT: 187
SAT: 2000

A fairly big jump for me there I guess (I did not study for PSAT)

farralicious, i'm in the EXACT same situation, only w/ a 192 PSAT soph year, and i did prep. good luck! hope we don't get a crappy proctor...

PSAT: 194
SAT: 1930

Took the SAT 2 months after PSAT, studied tons for the PSAT but barely for the SAT. Overall my score went down 10 points, but Math jumped 30.

I took the October 2005 PSAT yesterday and scored 140.. today I took the January 2007 test and scored a 1400...

First PSAT: 174
Second PSAT: 190
First SAT (diagnostic): 1660
Second SAT (diagnostic): 1880
Third SAT: 2080

I think the only difference is the ability to maintain focus for 4 hours; if you can do that then you should pretty much ace the SAT with those scores. All of my friends received similar or slightly lower scores on their SAT in comparison to their PSAT without studying.

that was just CR and Math... *** I don't really care about the writing section...

PSAT: 219
SAT 1st time: 2230

If you can get a 232 PSAT, you should do remarkably on the sat.. just make sure you can concentrate well for 4 hours (harder than it sounds)

^^and the essay...

DS's scores:
PSAT 9th 187
PSAT 10th 211
PSAT 11th 232
SAT 11th 2390
He didn't study other than one timed SAT practice test from the blue book. I did make him eat a good breakfast before the SAT and sent high-protein snacks. Good luck!

Wow, congratulations sunset31 on your son's scores!
Can you tell me what would be examples of 'high-protein snacks'?
Also, what kind of breakfast do you suggest?

Thanks HighHope! We have a tradition of going out for breakfast before any major standardized test. I figure it helps him wake up (he usually goes to school half asleep in the mornings) and we have something fun to look forward to. He doesn't eat much but picks at a typical diner breakfast.

Regarding snacks for the SAT - I sent beef jerky, peanuts and powerade. Good luck!

2007 PSAT: 230
Jan. 2008 SAT: 2260

kinda disappointed... reading killed me on the SATs.

Yeah, you should do fine. What was your writing score, by the way? Because on PSAT there is only one writing section (compared to 2 for math/CR) so the curve tends to be a bit harsh. This is especially true for high scores like yours. For example, I got a 235 this year, and my writing score was 75, with only missing 1 question. But on the SAT, if you miss 2 questions and have a good essay, you can still get an 800.
