SAT Reading question (first edition)

Page 458 question #24

Using Process of Elimination, one can easily figure out that the answer to the question is (A). But I can't seem to find anything in the passage that supports this answer.

(A) They were discouraged from pursuing careers in their native country.

The passage basically talks about how women with jobs were looked down upon. No where does it mention that they were "discouraged", though. Men just didn't LIKE the fact that they had jobs.

I'm probably wrong and there probably is a quotation in the passage that supports the answer.

Could someone please point out to it. Or could someone who has access to the Full Solutions (BB Online course) please type that up for me? PLEASE

Really appreciate the help.

I love you.

Number 7,

Answer: (D)

This is a dual-passage question (short passages)
I can see that the second passage clearly supports the answer: “where it serves them to think nostalgically about family farms as the source of our better values.”

But I can’t seem to find anything that supports the answer in the FIRST passage.

Oh and if you’re wondering the question is “Both passages serve to discourage the…”

Passage 1 basically just talks about the rigorous life of farmers in general. It don’t mention any nonfarmers that it would like to discourage from romanticizing…

I’m probably wrong again.

Thanks in advance :)! <3

for #24 pg.458, In passage two it states in lines 66-70 how women wanted to get away from domestic confinement and the social restrictions and more along those lines. The words “domestic confinement” makes it seem that women were discouraged to pursue careers apart from domesticity with social restrictions also playing a part in it. In addition, some women wanted to leave their native country to do missionary work or scientific research, which also suggests how they probably weren’t encouraged to do much in their native country. This is why I think A seems like the most logical answer.

I hope that helps!
