SAT Retake

My dads been telling me to retake my SAT before I send in my apps. What do you think?

M: 790
W: 800
CR: 710

Unnecessary. That is a spectacular score, and you should be proud of yourself (:

im also a bit worried about my senior year schedule. im taking literally only 4 classes at my high school. 3 of which are aps. i am also taking a math class at a local college. but do to commute times there’s basically no way i can fit any other classes in my schedule. the only other thing i could add is 1 extra ap but that probably wont end up happening

Normally, I would say that there is no good reason to retake SAT with a 2300. However, I would be worried a bit about a 710 in CR since the most recent 25 and 75 percentile cuttoffs for Harvard freshmen are 690 and 800. If you can improve upon it, there is no harm in taking the SAT again.

@HarvardParent: In that aspect, it is true. But, I feel that it is a risk if his score does go down. Also, most scores in Harvard I believe in Writing are between 700-750. Not only that, but the Harvard site states that they only take into account of Critical Reading and Math (not Writing). I got the same score as biomd1 in Writing.

@biomd1: You got to do what you can. If you can’t do something about it, then why worry about it (since you can’t change that situation). Just do your best with what you have (:

To OP: Are you an Asian? If not, it might be ok - just maybe. Totally agree with #4, but not #5. You got nothing to lose by retaking the test, right? Colleges only take your highest scores, so even if you do get a lower score next time nothing would change. Why don’t just try your best and get a better score, then. It’s doable… If you are an Asian, however, I’d say it becomes necessary for you to retake the test unless you have already nailed AP English Lan or AP English Lit or both with solid 5s. In any case, if you really worry about retaking a test with a lower score, you may not fit in H or other highly selective college - not because of your scores but because of your lack of confidence. That’s a big No No on those campuses… Just a thought, though.

i am and i did get a 5 on AP English Language. its kind of weird cause i though that my ap english exam mc were easier than the sat critical reading.

The AP English Lang is more straight forward than SAT CR. You probably need to pay a little more attention to the tone and inference than just grammar for CR. Since your writing score is perfect, this may be a case of cultural background issue :-). Anyway, you should try to improve it and it should be doable :-). A 750-760 would get you comfortably into the middle of pack and it will not be an obvious weakness anymore.

thanks for the assistance guys. i actually just took the 2011-2012 CR practice test from college board and got an 800, so i guess I will go for the retake.
