Okay, I took the SAT for the first time in June and got a 2330:

W:770
M:800
C:760

Assuming I want to get into Ivy-caliber schools, is it worth it to retake the test (to get a 2400, perhaps)? I'm personally of the opinion that 2-3 questions doesn't make much of a difference and that this is a good enough score to be competitive, but I just wanted to check in with some quasi-experts. I also subscribe to the theory that the SAT is less of a big admissions criteria and more of a validation regarding other data...so I don't know if it's that important to warrant a retake. (Also, adcoms say that retakes don't matter to them...but the fact of the matter is, they'll know there was a retake, and that's that).

I agree with the above post unless you are kind of unbalanced in a certain section and think you could do better. this is definitely not the case with this person, but for other people reading this thread, it's something to consider. myself, I got a higher score than you suggested but with <700 on math, so I retook it later just to see if I could even the score out more (and I did.) even then, it probably wasn't completely necessary.

to the original poster, you seem like you're all set! good work so far, and good luck with the apps!

i'm no expert but i'd say... do what you want. your SAT score is awesome right now, high enough to make you very competitive at any school, but if you want to go higher, retake. at this point it might not be so much trying to increase your chances, but showing yourself that you can get the 2400, which is all fine and good:)

Listen your SAT scores are above and beyond what is competitive to Ivy league universities. What study aides did you use. Please! I really need some help.

I've taken these Subject Tests: Math I, Math II, and Chemistry so far, with scores (respectively) of 780, 800, and 790, which I think is alright (though it kinda sucks that I scored lower on Math I than Math II, but whatever). I'll probably take Biology as well, and maybe Literature.

smdfire: I didn't really study much...but one good resource I used is Princeton Review's book of 10 or so practice tests; you can pay either 3 dollars per essay or 20 dollars lump sum to get 10 practice essays graded by Princeton Review with feedback as well, which is helpful and gives you direction in how to write an SAT Essay. I ended up getting 11/12...so it was useful.
