SAT score not improving.

Hello,

This is my first post on the forum!

I practiced around 20 full length papers for the first time I gave my SAT, and received around 2000-2150 in those, usually lying more in 2000-2100 range. I received a 1980 in my first attempt in January. I registered for the May SAT and have started practicing for the SAT. The full length papers that I do now, I seem to be stuck in the below 2100 range, I'm not improving. I do the usual reviewing after the paper, and so on, but I still seem to be stuck below 2100. How do I improve my scores? I require a score above 2150 (atleast) to get into the universities of my choice.

Thanks.

Read more and keep practicing. Review why you are getting certain questions wrong and work on them. Otherwise, you may have reached your “range.”

As cortana said, just keep practicing and reviewing. Do you notice a trend in your scores? I had a similar problem where I would get perfect or near perfect scores for the math sections but get lower scores in critical reading and writing. Critical reading is all about knowing vocabulary and understanding what the question is asking. Math is all about understanding the concepts. Writing is all about memorizing grammar rules as the SAT always tests on the same 10-15 grammar rules. I hope this helps!

You may have hit your limit working on your own. If you’ve done that much work already and things aren’t budging, I’d suggest hiring a tutor for a few sessions. You may need someone to analyze your most recent practice tests to help you pinpoint some areas where you might eke out a few more points.

Thanks for your replies. 3 months before my SAT, i hired a tutor for the SAT, but I think I need to get another tutor just to help me with my mistakes. Thanks for the advice, I’ll be back if things still don’t budge.

It’s interesting because I was actually just like you. I did almost 20 practice exams and they were pretty much in the 2100’s or 2000’s. But on my last 3 practices before the actual SAT, I scored 2270, 2280, and 2340. Then on the actual, I got 2370. For me during that last week something just clicked, like I know I could definitely have scored even higher on the actual day so my advice is to just keep practising (: Good luck!
