SAT Score

What is the average SAT and ACT score for a white female applying to Wharton?

Thanks!!

Same as a white male applying to Wharton… I mean they don’t release average scores for specific schools or demographics. The average Penn SAT score is a 2230-2240. If you’re at 2200+/33+ ACT, you’re fine.

Is a 32 ACT reasonable?

Also would Penn overlook average SAT scores for a better ACT?

Also- Will Penn accept a 730 Math 2 subject test? Is that good enough for Wharton?

Thanks!!!

@businessg101 32 is on the lower end of the range, but still reasonable to have a chance for admission. 730 in math 2 is again kind of low, but not too low so you wouldn’t be immediately disqualified from consideration just based on that. with these scores you do need to prove your strengths in the other areas like ECs, essays, recommendations etc.

also regarding ACT vs SAT, many might disagree with what i am about to say, but admissions know that people who take the ACT are usually the ones who have failed to do that well on the SAT and that the ACT is considered in general easier than the SAT. so i feel they might prefer an applicant with great SAT scores over an applicants with great ACT scores, who has shown that he/she didn’t do well on the SAT( u need to send to Penn your whole testing history)

Thanks @Penn95 I appreciate your help. my EC’s do greatly outweigh these scores. The only thing that really brought me down was science on the ACT (everything else is 33-35 range).

My SAT is around a 2100. But I think I will take the SAT again, despite the fact that it will be my fourth time. Will this look really bad, to the point of rejection? I am certain I will improve.

Is a 33 ACT the difference between acceptance and rejection ? I don’t see the big difference. I’m really worried about these testing scores. Can I have an opinion on what i should do?

Thank you so much for your time!!

taking the SAT a 4th time is very risky. Penn (and all top schools really) are known to seriously frown upon taking it more then 3 times. so if you don’t manage a significant improvement, the 4th time could actually hurt you. I d say ACT 33,32 are borderline and anything below makes it very difficult. schools like Penn wanna reserve the low score spots for athletes and development cases (kids from prominent and/or wealthy families who will contribute one way or another to Penn, like kids of state leaders, billionaires, rich legacies etc)

Do not take the test a 4th time. It looks bad.

That comment about students taking the ACT after not doing well on the SAT is utterly ridiculous. In many parts of the country, the ACT is the main test taken. Also, the SAT is being recast nest spring to be more like the ACT. Why is that? My kid only took the ACT exam (once) and is at a top Ivy so it didn’t hurt her one bit.

Well at least in India, ACT is much easier for students than the SAT. I’d say a 2250+ SAT is a 35 on the ACT for Indians

^^ 750 on all three sections is probably pretty equivalent to two 34s and two 35s making a composite 35, so I don’t view your comment as being that far off. Also, I’m pretty sure you don’t have the data to speak for all of India but I’ll assume you’re right. My last point will be that most schools suoerscore the SAT and not the ACT so it’s an applicant’s best interest to take the SAT more than once if they can raise individual sections. That should somewhat equalize the value of the two tests if the assertion that the ACT is “easier” (which no data supports).

@jarrett211 will a 2180 SAT be considered as basically a 2200 because its also a 33 equivilent. i also have a 32 on the ACT but my SAT is better

I think the very bare minimum you should try to aim for is 33 and 2200.
