@cardinal2020mom These acceptances are not tied to when the student applied. They are tied to merit - test scores etc.
when did you all apply that you are hearing back already?
He applied Sept 1st but HS didn’t send transcripts till end of Oct. Best of luck !!
@pkgny2022 It does not have to do with when you applied. Highest merit students sometimes hear early.
@Jonsmom14 why did your son not qualify for $15,000? He seemed to be top 10%, high GPA and SAT? BTW congrats! we are hoping to hear back the sooner the better. We are from NJ. Where are you from?
Getting the $15k from Clemson means our son can go there for right around the same cost as our own CA UC’s. I am sooo glad we got the notification this early because now we don’t have to bother apply to the UC’s.
We are out of state and my student has a 1410 SAT, 31 ACT and we received an email on Oct 23 from Clemson, saying they had everything they needed. She applied for business/marketing.
No acceptance letter yet…
But she is only in the top 16% of her class, despite 4.25 GPA and 8 AP classes. She is at a very competitive high school where 98% go to a four year college afterwards. Hoping that is not going to hurt her chances.
@vamom My DS is very similar to yours…1400 SAT and top 12%. GPA well over 4.0 (we are on a different scale) and 8 APs. Also OOS, also at a very competitive school, and also Business…Here is what I think applies to my son and should be very similar advice for you. We went to Discover Clemson in May, which was for high ranking students (he had already sent his SAT scores which is why I guess he was invited). Without promising anything, Admissions Dept Rep told me not to worry too much about admission. Business is not capped (at least it hasn’t been…so that is a good major as far as Admissions goes). If I had to guess, I would think he would get the $7500 scholarship and be admitted, but by all means it is not a sure thing. We do not consider it a safety school. We won’t be shocked if he doesn’t get in, but I like his odds, if that makes sense. I also talked to the Calhoun Honors person on the phone (nicest most comprehensive person I’ve ever talked to in the whole realm of college people). In addition to really explaining Calhoun Honors, what they are looking for …she seemed to say that the fact you qualify for Calhoun Honors is a good sign that you are going to at least get admitted to the school.
Having said all that, you can look at the Message Boards from last year and find instances of high ranking kids who did not get in. Why didn’t they get in? Who knows. That’s why it isn’t a safety. Then again, you don’t know those kids. You don’t know what kinds of classes they were taking…You don’t know if there is some dark mark on their resume that they aren’t telling. I’m just saying that information is not perfect. Don’t get too worried about who didn’t get in and just focus on the fact that the odds are in your favor. That’s my approach.
Also, I specifically asked about whether being outside top 10% was a really bad sign and she immediately referred to the statistic that like 85% are in the top 20%, or something like that. I think being outside the top 25% would be problematic.
@vamom4 and @TexasStudent2018 my son is in the same exact situation as both of your children. He also applied for Business. 1420 SAT, GPA over 4.0, 44 AP/Dual college credits, etc but still top 20% at competitive NJ HS. I went for a private session at the business school the end of August and they said the average SAT score for the business school was 1340-1380 for the freshman that just entered. They also said they will take a few more applicants this year since the new business school is coming. As for merit, the most that will be offered would be the $7500 since they are not top 10 even with such great stats. However, I have a friend whose daughter is there now and they offered her an additional 2500 later on. That would be wonderful, but not banking on it. I just want him to get it. I can’t stop looking for the mailman every day. Even though I know it could be months still.
@TexasStudent2018 That is well said, well explained and should be the prevailing attitude about Clemson admissions. We are local and over the years have known many, many students who have applied, been accepted, bridged or denied and you have framed all of that accurately.
Also, no letter doesn’t mean anything yet. Could be the business school hasn’t mailed any, or isn’t mailing them yet. Who knows.
My DS16 was a provisional admit as a Jr . Even with provisional acceptance , he did not receive his official notification until Dec if my memory serves me correctly .
@cardinal2020mom - mid August. Counselor report and transcripts were sent in mid September
My son got his acceptance letter to Clemson on 11/9. He was OOS and received $15,000.
Congratulations ! My son also received $15K on 11/9. OOS. He had SAT 1490 and 5.12 GPA. Engineering Major.
@mweb136 well $15k would of been better but I will take the 10K. He is top 3% but I think his stats were just below the cusp for the $15 k. Were are also fro NJ-Middletown ! Good luck to you !!
My son just got his letter- FL; $10,000; ACT-31; GPA-3.95 uw/school doesn’t rank; engineering.
DS accepted with $15,000/yr scholarship
1550 SAT, 34 ACT, 4.0 uw GPA, 5.8 weighted GPA, Top 1% 4/455
my daughter’s stats: 1390 SAT, 3.48 weighted gpa, school does not rank, marketing major or undecided…any thoughts would be helpful!! good luck to all
My son stats 34 ACT, 3.76 GPA. School does not rank. $7,500 scholarship offer Engineering. Curious why $7,500 and not $15,000. From reading other posts, probably b/c school does not rank?
@collegeparent We were told they have a way to basically figure out where your student is for class rank and a school not ranking doesn’t ever penalize an applicant. Or, like our school says they don’t rank, but they do, they just don’t publish it to the school. They do send the rankings to colleges and scholarships if needed.
