Can a 1210 (640 math, 570 verbal) and 670 (11 on essay) writing (1880 all together) get me into mich? I have a 4.0 weighted GPA. Anyone got any opinions?

What is your Michigan GPA?

I commented on your chance in another thread. Here's how to find your Michigan GPA.

1) Get rid of all "weighted" boosts.
2) Get rid of all non-academic classes.
3) Get rid of all freshman grades
4) I know your school does it based on percentages. So give each grade that is a 90 or above an A, 80 or above a B, 70 or above a C. Don't worry about +/-, Michigan doesn't consider these.

Tell us what that GPA is, and we can evaluate your chances better.

I calculated my Michigan GPA from 10 and 11 grade of CORE CLASSES. I got B's in 3 classes and A's in 7 classes. These classes are entirely made up of AP's and honors core classes.
This year I am taking 5 core classes (4 AP, 1 Honors) and prob. got 4 B's and 1 A. This is a VERY hard semester esp. with college stuff and the difficulty of the courses this year for some reason. How does 12th grade first semester factor into decisions.
Also what are my chances now that I told you my Michigan grades.
Remember, I got a 1210 (640 M, 570 V) and 700 SAT II US History and 670 writing (1880 on SAT if you include it)
I am an out of state student and application will be out between Nov. 1st to the 3rd. BE HONEST! Thanks
PS: I am also writing a whole essay to them on being all-state chorus and all county 4 times and how I want to sing with them. They are very big on music so I heard.
PLEASE HELP!

You have a 3.7 UMich GPA. I think that's right around, maybe a little below the average for an OOS applicant. Your SAT Score of 1210 is a little below the average for an OOS applicant. Also, submitting in November is a little late compared to all applicants. You're just behind all the averages it seems in everything.

I'd like to say Michigan's a match under that criteria for you, but not a "safe match". About a 50/50 chance of admission.

12th grade first semester grades probably will come into play for you because it's likely you will be deferred, meaning they want to look at your application more thoroughly (translation: see if other applicants come around that are better than you) and offer you admission or not. If you have good first semester grades, that will help, showing that you truly want to work hard and go there. If you have a 3.2, it likely won't help, as most will still be getting their A's.

^I agree w/the above poster...but I think the chances are slightly lower than that...maybe 45/55 cuz your also out of state which hurts you alittle right off the bat...

but my musical talents i think can be a huge factor. being a top singer in New York State and all-county 3 times (4th time TBA) I don't see how they can look past that being that they are a huge music school in terms of musical competitions and such.

Are you applying to the School of Music?

no i am applying LSA...i will try to participate in a variety of acapella and choral groups on the side.

Michigan just doesn't value ECs as much as you think they do, especially Music. They look at the GPA first, and foremost. It is the most highly weighted portion of their application. It is classified as a "very important" admission factor. Then comes test scores, recs, essay, residency, and ethnicity as "important" decision factors. ECs, volunteer work, and class rank are just "considered".

A2Wolves..it's not that I want to show off my E.C.'s. I want to continue singing in college, something Michigan looks very highly of. Michigan's acapella and choir groups compete in national competitions and so forth so it's very important to them. Emphasizing that I want to continue singing in their school (not because I want to get into the school; its something I have a passion for) can only help me. Every applicant of a college represents an investment. The school wants to get a return from the student. Music is something I can definitly bring to the campus and return that favor.

It will help you, i'm not going to argue that. But nearly every other applicant to the school has some sort of an EC that will help them just as much as you. Your music isn't going to change your average numbers into a great one that they won't want to turn down. Michigan said that when I took a campus tour, that they look at the entire application, and consider everything, but great ECs, recs and essay aren't going to make up for grades.

I hope for the best for you, but when evaluating your chances looking at accepted applicant numbers and percentages, I can't say that it's definitely more than a 50/50 chance.

November is not late for OOS students. The big wave of early applicants tend to be resident students.
