Hi everyone! I took the June SAT, and got a score of 2130. ( Math-700, CR- 630, W- 800) I am wondering whether to take it again. I am in my senior high of high school, and October is my last chance to give the SAT. I am not sure of the colleges i wish to apply to; however, my preference is the ivy league or any of the other 'top colleges' there are. Furthermore, i am aware of my low CR score, and i have heard that a lot of colleges pay more attention to CR and Math than they do to Writing. Can anyone confirm this? Reverting back to my initial question, can someone please tell me whether it is advisable to give the SAT again, considering that i have to do well in my senior year too? (this was my second try, btw. I scored 1960 in the January SAT) And whether my score of 2130 is good enough?

It would be a low score applying to most ivies/top schools and yes, the CR is pretty weak. All of the sections are viewed about the same in the ivies/top colleges where they look at all 3 so you want to make sure they’re all solid. Spend the summer studying, it might be worth a re-take if you are aiming for those top schools. Try to get CR to 700 and you have some room for improvement in math so it looks like you could break the 2200 threshold.

Thanks for your input, dblazer. I am really considering taking the SAT in October again. Yes, 2200+ is my definite aim. Thanks again.

I was informed by my son’s high school guidance counselor that colleges definitely do not pay as much attention to the writing score. It is just not weighted as much as CR and CM. In fact she even said some colleges don’t even look at the writing score. This was a concern for us since after taking the SAT twice he was unable to bring the writing score up, however his CR and CM scores were good.

Just retake them and try to get the CR up. The scores shouldnt hinder you completely, if your GPA and ECs are good. So just try to break 2200 but if you don’t, don’t be discouraged just have safety schools at the ready and apply. It isn’t a score that should cut you out completely.

Top colleges are going to put much more weight on CR & M than W. With a 1330 score your chances of being admitted to one of the top colleges is not good.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, guys! I am thinking of giving it again in October, maybe. @Divy 1234 Yes, i will try to get that 2200 and i do have a few safety schools in mind, thanks :)
