SAT Scores...

My son visited the FSU school of Music last February and fell in love. We've visited other schools but this one still has him hooked.

Due to other schedule conflicts, he wasn't able to take the SAT's till this month. I just got his scores. An 1890.

Now if I look at the admissions page at the school, this seems to be right about in the middle of where they say their scores are for the "middle 50 percentile" of students. My son has tons of extra curricular activities, ample community service, 5AP courses by the time he's done and a 4.1 weighted GPA.

The question is... being that this seems to be in the sweet spot for their acceptance, do I have him take them again? For the program he's interested in, he has to apply by Oct15 (early admissions). He could take the Oct1 test... I don't know how long they continue looking at the numbers, but I could also have him take the Nov5 test?

Knowing FSU super-scores, I also had him take the ACT but those scores aren't in yet. Maybe I should have him take practice tests over the summer and take each one at least one more time in the fall?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

I would suggest having him retake the exams. He may qualify for a scholarship if he scores well enough.

See: [FSU Admissions | Freshman | Finances | Freshman Scholarships](<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found)

Doesn’t hurt to take them again. He may improve and qualify for more scholarships.

he definitely wants to apply for the early admission…and the oct. scores won’t be back by then…but as mentioned above, improving them may get him scholarship money or invitation to honors

If there are scores on record, they WILL consider updated Oct test date scores for the priority admit date. If a student does not take the SAT for the first time until OCT, they will not consider that application for the priority early group. But if there is a score on file, they will most certainly consider the retake scores. If he is OOS, I would retake in October.

Thanks… I rather thought that it wouldn’t hurt to re-take them. After writing that note, I had also looked at the web site, and your right, he may very well be right on the brink of being offered honors… And anything that improves his chances for scholarships is certainly welcome!

… as an update, just received my son’s ACT score… 28! Not too shabby on the first try. But again, right on the lower rim of “honors” territory… Guess he’s going to have a busy fall taking tests! :-)

The investment of practice time and a few bucks in these exams at this stage could reward you well.

A side note on the honors program, They have become very selective in the past year and have higher standards because many students qualify. So if your son is interested in it, taking the exams again can not hurt.
