I’ve noticed that lots of smart kids with high GPAs and standardized test scores, are getting deferred from their “safety school,” FSU.
I know at TUFFS, admissions started declining! kids that we’re highly intelligent because they knew that they would get accepted to some Ivys, and only applied to TUFFS as a safety, so not to increase their acceptance rate, they rejected them.
I couldn’t help think maybe this was relevant for FSU also, if they see you’re interested in schools like UF or Miami or possible some Ivys.
On another note
I also wanted to ask, if you audition for FSU school of music, they release your acceptance in march. They also send out the final acceptance/ rejection letters to the deferred/ regular decision students in march. Do you think if a student was deferred, with their grades meeting the minimum requirements but were not very strong, (not terrible but not spectacular) and then auditioned for the school of music and felt great about it and did a wonderful job, that the student might still have a chance of being accepted to the university? I know at some schools when their music program is not connected with admissions, the college of music sends their evaluation of the student to admissions and they make the last call. Do you think this happens with FSU?
And especially for an out of state student?^
Any one with personal experience, please share!!
Thank you guys!
Hi Faithciavarella, yes you still have a chance. My D. was deferred last yr. in December because of SAT. Had a great audition and was accepted in March to both the Univ. and Music program. Good luck!.
That’s amazing!!! Congrats to your son!!! And thank you!!! @Lauralm1
If you don’t mind me asking, how low was your daughters SAT score? 1580 low?? (That’s mine)
@Lauralm1 I apologize I said son instead of daughter ^^^
Her GPA was a 4.2 weighted but her SAT math did not meet the minimum requirement ( it was below 500) She is one of those students that the college of music went to bat for. She was told she would need to go to summer C and do well to continue. ( which she did) @faithciavarella what did you audition under?
Weighted my GPA is a 3.8 and all my sat sections meet the requirements (my math hits a 500 lol) to make 1580. What’s summer C? Did she start in fall? When I auditioned I auditioned as a soprano, what do you mean exactly audition under? @Lauralm1
when I asked what you were auditioning under I meant what is your instrument ( voice, trumpet, guitar etc) also what are you majoring in, Performance, education etc. Because of the low SAT score my D had to do Summer C . It seems to be offered a lot to students who are deferred in December and just meet the academic criteria. How was your audition @faithciavarella ?
Oh then voice lol the audition went great it couldn’t have gone better. Im from NY so I flew down with my dad to audition and it was totally worth the trip. Did your daughter apply to start in the fall and the changed it to summer and told her in march? @Lauralm1
And I applied for music Ed @Lauralm1 and my last question was, how did she know she was doing the summer session? Did they tell her when she heard back in march?
yes she did apply for Fall. For my D it came down to the SAT. She had the grades and coursework. ( over 30 college credits). Your being deferred because you want to be a music major at FSU. Your out of State and your GPA and SAT are not strong enough to get in to the University. What do you plan on majoring in at FSU @faithciavarella if you get accepted, Performance, Education, Music Therapy??? I have 2 D’s in the program one is a performance major the other Education. .
I plan on majoring in education @Lauralm1
Good luck @faithciavarella its a wonderful program, please keep me informed of your status. Got my fingers crossed for you!
Thank you!!! I’ll make sure to post on march 18th when I hear back @Lauralm1
