Hello,

I'm planning to apply to Yale Early Action this fall. I've taken the SAT I once (taking it again next weekend) but I was just wondering if my scores were good enough.

CR: 720
M: 720
W: 700

So I have 1440/2140 combined scores. My guidance counselor was surprised that I'm taking it again, but I was worried this wasn't quite good enough.

Also, my SAT II's are:
US History: 770
Literature: 720

Aside from the SAT scores, my grades and transcript are Yale-quality (I'm second in my class, IB/AP student, etc). Also, I've gotten all 5's on all of the AP exams I've taken, along with an IB score of 6. I have good extra-curriculars and awards as well.

I was just curious about the SAT scores because I'm worried that they're not of good enough caliber for Yale, but I'm soo worried I'm going to falter when I take the test again and do poorly.

Any advice?

Those SAT scores are terrible for Yale, just god awful, you realize that will completely hold you back, the average Yale student has an SAT of 2400.

That was just some satire there, but seriously, you have an average score. It won’t hold you back, and of course, it won’t get you in. I think your score puts you in the bottom half of the score range. I am taking the SAT again and I have a slightly higher score so don’t feel bad about retaking it. In the end, like I said, Yale won’t reject you for that score, but as always the higher the score the better.

I see admissions as the build up of very small factors, a tad higher score here, and showing a little more passion there is what I think can boost someone over the edge, its all about building up the application and being strong everywhere.

I think it would be smart to take it again, especially if you think you can do better

Okay thanks! Yeah I’m taking it again so we’ll see how that goes
