I'm planning to buy these books for SAT summer studying:

Direct Hits Core Vocabulary for the SAT Volumes 1 and 2
Maximum SAT By: Peter Edwards
Blue Book
Grammatix

I was wondering if any1 had any other recommendations. Also: does any1 know if there is a new version for Maximum SAT as the last one was published in 2006

bigb14 - can i ask your reasoning as to why NOT to use kaplan, princeton review or barron’s?

anyway - i found gruber’s helpful for math, and i personally used princeton review between the march and june sats and had a 190 point increase. i think that was just from practice though.

^They’re good for practice but their tests aren’t as accurate as the tests made by the College Board. Barrons has a reputation for being overly difficult and Kaplan has a lot of mistakes so it’s advisable to take tests made from the College Board itself.

Practice test sucks- wording not right, mistakes, difficulty, etc (but every non-CB book is, even Maximum + Gruber’s)

Advice sucks- pay $20 for a book on how to use POE.

Review material = nonexistent

Conclusion: You need a book that teaches you the CONCEPTS, not ways to get around actually knowing the material, because there is none. You need to learn the concepts that appear on the test, not how to guess.
