Senior here. Just took Bio M in an attempt to improve on my 700 Bio E score from June, but don’t think I did well enough to surpass the 750 mark. Given that I’m looking into Computer Science, would that be worth retaking for top tier schools, including MIT? My other test scores are as follows: ACT: 36 (36 E, 36 M, 36 R, 34 S), SAT II Math 2: 800
Also, will colleges take into account that I’ve only just started AP Biology and that’s it’s been more than a year since I took Honors Biology?
The question is moot until you get your scores back; you may be pleasantly surprised. Personally, if I did not get my target Subject Test score after 2 tries, I’d move on to a different subject test, if needed.
No. AP Bio is not needed to do well on the SAT Subject Test; AP Bio is college-level and the Subject Test is HS level. Obviously some users might feel more comfortable taking a science Subject Test after the AP class, but colleges aren’t going to cut you any slack just because you just started an AP class.
You already have a 700 score on the bio, and an 800 on the math. I would not even worry about retaking it again, honestly. You have fantastic scores, so focus on other aspects of your application.
@skieurope I understand now, thanks. Hopefully, with a possibly lenient curve, I will score above 750 this time. But in the case that I don’t, would you say a score of around 730 or so is sufficient?
It really depends on the schools you are targeting. In an earlier thread, you indicated that you were targeting Ivy League Schools and that you were not in the top 10%. So your Subject Test scores are less of an issue than your class rank, IMO.
@yonceonhismouth Even for schools like MIT? The last time I checked, their 25th percentile SAT II Science score was 740.
@skieurope I am not in the top 10%, yes. But I do have somewhat valid reasons for my low weighted GPA. I suppose I’ll just wait for my score to come out, though. Thanks for the help.
If it’s 700 or higher it shouldn’t matter. My son has a friend at MIT whose SAT2 science score was in the high 600s but his grades were excellent.
