SAT Subject Test Tips

Hey!! I’m going to take the subject tests in August which ones would you recommend taking!
Also which subject tests have the best curves?
Ps. any tips you have for getting the phat 800 would be greatly appreciated!

Chinese listening has the “best curve” - 54% get 790 or 800. Listening Korean is close. If that’s your criterion.

Tip on getting 800 is answering all of the questions correctly.

I’d suggest providing some info on courses you’ve taken, subjects in which you do well, what year in school you are, etc.,… anything, really… if you want useful answers.

im taking multivar calc, spanish 5, etc. and have taken ap chem, physics, apush, whap etc.
but im thinking abt taking the spanish, math 2, chem and us history but am unaware of how hard i guess each one is

Definitely take the Math 2. If you use prep books and build up your speed with lots of practice tests you can get an 800, especially since you are at an advanced level in math. (Do not take Math 1 because it is harder to get an 800.)

Math 2 should be straightforward, but you may need to refresh yourself on topics - they are all on Precalc or earlier. I know that once I was a few years deep into Calc, remembering how to find the determinate of a 3x3 matrix wasn’t exactly top of mind anymore. But it comes back quickly.

For the other subjects - which have you taken most recently, or feel you know/remember the best? At the end of taking a subject is the best time to take the test. Details tend to fade as you focus on other subjects.

Languages are tricky because, as noted with Chinese and Korean, you tend to get a lot of native speakers taking them for an easy 800, and makes it tough to score highly if you’re not at that level. Spanish probably isn’t as bad as some, and colleges understand the scoring bias. 5 years in, you might be in fine shape.

The Math 2 is a good SAT Subject test to take. If you took any AP classes, it might be a good idea to select a subject test corresponding to that subject because you’ll be more knowledgeable on that topic.

Take the Math 2. If you use preparation books and if you want to increase your speed with lots of practice tests you can get an 800, especially since you are at an advanced level in math. (Do not take Math 1 because it is harder to get an 800.)
