SAT Subject Tests and UMich

I just finished the SAT subject tests today and think I may have done well, though I don't know.

If I do get a 700+ on the tests I took, is it to my advantage to submit them to U of M for scholarship purposes? I have a 33 on the ACT (retaking with hopes of a 34) and am mainly hoping to get a merit scholarship at U of M.

So, to submit or not to submit? Will they even care? Should I only submit them if they are above 750 in each subject?

Thanks!

I don’t think they’ll give merit aid just for high test scores. If you get a 34 and have a 4.0 with several AP classes, maybe. If you have a 34 with a 3.8 and a few APs, I doubt they’ll give you anything.

If it helps, these are my stats:

Junior this year at a Newsweek top 20 school, USNWR top 10 school.
GPA: 4.0 Unweighted (our school does not assign weight)
ACT: 33 (retaking with hopes of a 34)
SAT IIs: Taking them in Math II, Bio, and Literature
State of Residency (if it helps): Michigan (and UMichigan recruits students from our school pretty heavily)

Class difficulty:
9th and 10th: All honors courses, all considered “pre-IB”. I took AP Calc AB in 10th grade, received a 5.

11th: Full IB course load. 3 sciences: IB Bio, Chem and Physics. IB SL Math, IB Lit, IB History, IB Spanish, and TOK. Dual enrolled for a statistics class at a local university first semester.

12th: Courses will stay the same.

Academic Awards:
Top Science Award
Summa Cum Laude

ECs:

MUN club president, many awards in MUN

Spanish Honors Society (Officer)

NHS

Science Olympiad Officer (Experimental Design is so much fun!)

Youth Symphony (next year is my 5th year, I’m the principle horn player)

Volunteer Work

Student gov (secretary for three years)

100ish hours of volunteering at nursing home

Youth Leadership Project: Investigated problems related to poverty, hunger, and
homelessness on a local and international level for the course of the year. It was thought inspiring.

Will be attending TASP this summer (Telluride Association Summer Program for Juniors)

I basically just want to know if I should send in my SAT Subject Scores if they come back as 720+ or if it won’t really do much. I think I might have done well today (Math II was a bit difficult, and Bio M was so-so) but if it is an advantage to submit good SAT IIs then I will probably retest in October (but would prefer not to if it won’t do much for my app)
Thanks :)

Anyone? Beuller?

it can’t hurt.

Michigan does not really look at the SAT II. However, as mumurthigal points out, it can’t hurt either.

The trick is to apply as early as possible. With your grades and solid ACT score, you should have a shot at some merit money.

I have a SAT score of 2260 and SAT 2 Math 800, Physics 800, Chem 790.
Okay ECs and good class rank (Top 10%)
I also have won some Math competitions and have an AMC score.
Do I have a decent chance of getting accepted at UMichigan early OOS?
I also need some merit aid

@artetc You really shouldn’t have bumped this thread. This belongs somewhere else, like in the Chanceme board or at least one of the active applicant threads.

Still, you have marginally better SAT than I do (2230 SAT 1, 800 Math 2, 770 Physics). “Okay ECs” makes me think I might have more involvement in that regard, though it’s subjective and you didn’t give much detail. Winning math competitions never hurts, especially since by your SAT2 choice seems to show a STEM path. I got in OOS Early to Engineering. No financial aid offer yet. If you write strong essays you should be a competitive applicant.
