Are SAT Subject tests required? What kind of placement tests do you have to take? What are they like? Would it be better to not submit crappy AP test scores? Do me a huge favor and check my profile out please and give me some feedback on what I need to do to get into Chapel Hill. Thanks very much!

subject tests aren’t required for admission. neither are ap exams. the only good grade i got on an ap exam was a 3 in ap gov. i just put it down on my application without sending an official score. i got in without these exams, but i believe they will help your application. focus more on your sat though. shoot for at least an 1800 (in-state). also, as a tip, the best thing you can do for your application is to try to make yourself look as unique as possible. they LOVE diversity.

No, subject tests are not required. I wouldn’t submit non-passing (1/2) AP scores.

They aren’t required but you should probably take sat subject if you don’t have the ap grade. Andrew may have been an exception, since different ppl have different backgrounds that can help them get admitted. I’m guessing that you are a junior and will try fall 2011 for admission. My advice is that you should study hard enough over summer to atleast test in math II/I (for placement classes at UNC) and/or literature/history. The reason why ap and sat scores are good to have is that at any possible time, they can save you a lot of money by skipping some intro lvl classes. I don’t think it is a bad idea to begin at base level at college if you transfer 0 credits…but truth be told…I would rather not do that (but that all depends on the person).
Remember that geography…school…potential are all tested in admission. IF your school offers a lot of aps…and you end up taking no tests for them…then it will reflect badly on you. If you missed your chance with taking the aps this year…you can always opt for SAT II subject, since these occur each month. Remember that you can take upto 3 SAT subject tests during the one day of testing. So you should consider that and try preparing for it.
