Most of the colleges I want to apply to don’t require SAT subject tests, some say they consider if I submit the test with my application. Is the sat subject tests worth taking, if not why? I am not sure whether I want to waste my time and money on it and whether or not it will be worth putting my time in for it. If I would take it I would take one of the math one, American history, biology, or French (I know it’s a variety I can’t decide). I’m planning to major in a social science like anthropology or political science with a minor in French.
If you take the SAT subject test and do very well (anything above 700) I would recommend sending even if the school does not require SAT subject tests. If they look at it the score will help you or won’t have any affect, but it can’t hurt you. It can lead to more merit aid money (which will more than recoup your costs for taking it) at schools that either recommend taking it or say they will consider the SAT subject test if submitted. Schools such as Rochester , Tulane and Syracuse come to mind. A strong SAT subject test will also be a deciding factor and help tilt the admissons scale in your favor if you are borderline for acceptance and the school has to choose between you and another qualified candidate who did not submit any score.
