- How should I choose the 3 subjects test?
- Are they depending on what UCs I am applying for and what they require, or should I choose the ones I am best at?
- I am good at Math but I don't know how good I am and what level should I take. My major is in biology and can I take just chemistry, biology, and Math, or should I should I take English and one in science, and math?
- What is the different purposes between SAT and SAT subjects tests? I want to send my best scores to colleges and will take it 2 times. Should I take one of each type or should I take 2 of the same type to get my better scores?
- If I take one of each type, should I send both of them to colleges of my choices or how does it work.
-
You should take the subject tests in which you think you will excel.
-
Check each colleges website to see if there are any specific recommendations for subject tests based on intended major. UC’s recommend subject tests for the Engineering schools: Math 2 and a science
-
I would definitely take the Math 2, Biology or Chemistry and then a English/History to show some well roundness but you only need 2 for most schools. Again check each schools website for specifics.
-
Subject tests are specific to 1 subject area: Math/Biology/Language. SAT test has 3 areas of testing: Math, Critical Reading (English/Vocab) and Writing. The writing portion with the new SAT test will be optional but you will need to check with each school to find out if they require the writing portion.

Some schools require all scores, some will allow you to send the highest and some will “superscore” the SAT which means you can take it several times, send them the scores and they will pick the highest scores from each section. Please note: UC’s require all scores and they will take the highest single score total from 1 sitting.
-
When you sign up for the SAT, you can designate 4 schools to have your scores sent for free, but these will be sent blind, meaning you will not see the scores before they are sent. You can wait until you have all your scores, then send them to your colleges of choice but this will cost you to send for each school. Please note again: If you send scores to 1 UC, it will be shared with all. Same thing for the Cal States, send scores to 1 school and all schools will share, so it helps to cut down costs.
