SAT!! THERE's Got to be a MISTAKE

no. let it be.

Okay, question:
Why would just the Writing section mess up?
I improved on CR and Math, went down 110 points from Writing (multiple choice went from 80 to 68, essay stayed the same). But I'm just wondering, since lots of people seem to think the that CB messed up - how can just one section be wrong? I know absolutely nothing about the scoring process, but it just seems strange that only the Writing section would mess up and the others stay about the same or better, in some cases.

I don't know who messed it up, but I got around 150 less than what I usually got in practice tests(blue book and Kaplan). Everybody seems to have their Writing score lower than what they expected. You can find 5-6 big threads in the SAT prep. post about the messed up writing score. Don't know why. How can pretty much everyone get lower than what they expected on the Writing section????

I hear you comfy. I'm gettin more sure each day that these collegeboard fools effed up our writing scores. I'm not certain though. But it just seems to make sense. COLLEGEBOARD OCTOBER SAT MESSUP PART 2.

yeah, i got a 650, and I was pretty sure I did better than that. My other scores were 740CR and 730M, seems kinda weird. I doubt it was a wide-spread mistake though.

last yr they messed up on the october SAT,and it was not wide-spread at all
are we going to do anything about this potential screw up?

contact your local tv station, publicize it on the 6 o'clock news if you really want to make an impact.

I'm suspicious about the October test results, based on all the postings here on CC and on my own son's results. I don't know what good it will do, but I went on to the collegeboard.com website, clicked Contact Us, and sent an e-mail to them regarding my concerns. It will probably be ignored, but if they get an unusual number of requests for hand scoring or the Q&A Service, as well as e-mails from students and parents affected by the score drop, perhaps they will initiate some kind of investigation.

I hope those of you that feel there may have been a mistake will send an email to the College Board voicing your concerns. It can't hurt. Here's the link:

http://www.collegeboard.com/about/co...tml?region=NYO

My Writing score went up 160 points, so I don't think there was an error on that many tests.

yeah. My writing score went up 190 points

At my school, it seems as if the students who didn't study at all had higher writing scores then the people who did study (me)...

I thought writing was easy -- did not expect a 60 point drop. Meh...I would do something about it, but the colleges I'm applying to only look at the highest scores per section...and my previous writing score is 730...which is good enough IMO.

i have taken the test 3 times. Previous writing scores were 680 & 710 with a 11 & 12 essay. This time i got a 540 in writing. *** !!! I'm so ****ed, because this was the first time I sat down and studied the official SAT book.

To be honest.. I don't think CollegeBoard messed up.

The SAT's can be tricky at times. I found the multiple choice to be "easy" too and got a 68 MC score. I know there must have been a place or two where I screwed up... especially since the Writing curve isn't very nice.

7 wrong= 64 MC

So I'm guessing maybe 4-5 would make a 68.

However, it's a good idea for somebody to contact CB since it has made mistakes before.

For me my writing went up 90 points, my math went up 50, and my CR went up 100. Now I have 2090. I wont complain.

I think you guys were fooled on the Experimental Section for W. I sure was. I thought that section was very easy, and I knew that I would receive a good score, until I took the next W section. That section was really tough, but I know that I did not miss so many questions to score a 67. Maybe, as people have tried to tell us, we made some major careless mistakes. Well, it does not hurt for you guys to have your scores rechecked. That W section is fairly new, and this is not the first time that it has had some issues. All in all, I my essay score was really high and probably saved me from plummeting into the 600-690 range.

My score turned out to be:
700(+170) 11(+3) Essay 96%<- That is really high!!!

I hope I helped you guys in your predicament and quandary.

it seems that scores jumped dramatically for some people and dropped dramatically for others.

odd.

Are last October’s SAT official discussion threads still around? It’d be interesting to see what sort of reactions people had, and if any cc test-takers were affected by the score mess up.

Yes. Search around.

My score went up 80 points so I can't complain. I personally think that the essay is, to some degree, a matter of luck. If you end up with an essay question which you've already thought about a lot, it's easier to write a high-scoring essay.

i got an 11 on my essay too but only got a 630...i'm going to ask for a rescore but chances r i probably skipped one question on the test and messed up on the order >< cry =(
