My composite is 1910, which breaks down into 720 writing, 670 reading, and a (horrible, I know) 520 math. I took the SAT a second time this past Saturday, so I will not know my new scores for a few weeks. My intended major is GLS, which emphasizes writing and reading a lot more than math. Nevertheless, I know it’s low. Opinions?
The 25-75 SAT percentiles according to the NYU CDS are 1860-2170, so while your composite score is good, you are on the lower end. The bigger concern is your individual math section score of 520, as only 13% on NYU undergrads have a math score lower than 600. Hopefully you did better in math on this latest test!
Math is too low. I would grab a copy of Dr. Chung’s SAT math and study it really hard over the summer. Evert time you get a question wrong, note the topic that the question was about and understand how to solve it.
I would recommend retaking.
Math might put you in jeopardy. I would shoot for breaking 600. I would also check out the ACT. One D did dramatically higher on the math ACT than the math SAT without any additional prep.
