SAT v. ACT

do colleges rank either of these higher (is one preferred)?

i know that the SAT is more common on the coasts and the ACT in the midwest, so as a west-coaster will using my ACT score be a disadvantage?

I don't think it should be much of a problem. With the changes in the SAT a couple of years ago, more students than ever took the ACT last year. Couple that with the fact that many schools who require SAT 2s will take the ACT in lieu of the SAT 2s and you have even greater reasons to take the ACT. If your SAT scores are pretty decent, submit them both, but if you really like your ACT better, just submit that and I don't think it will count against you.

Shennie is right, it does not matter unless you do not want to take the SAT II's.
