Hey guys!
So I have a 35 ACT and a 2220 SAT… So according to a conversion chart a 2220 SAT is about a 34 so it is lower than my ACT score
(I also have a 223 PSAT (definite semifinalist in Ohio) so that already shows proficiency on SAT styles exams)
Would it benefit me to submit both to schools or just the ACT?
Also I have taken these exams more than once and would prefer colleges not see my initial scores… if I don’t submit it to them is there any way they could know the scores?
I am curious about this too. There definitely are schools that will accept either, even if you take both. So that option is out there for you.
Some though, say you have to send all. But I’m not sure how they can require all of both, as you have to affirmative hit send on both. Do they mean if you send ACT, send all. Or SAT, send all. But if both, choose which you’ll send, and send all of that type?
With your scores, I’m assuming the caliber of the schools you will be applying to will be extremely selective.
Most of the Ivies require you to send in ALL of your scores – they do not participate in the score-choice policy. Also, many require/recommend you to take SAT IIs even if you took the ACT.
Because you will need to send in your SAT II scores along with your ACT, you will unfortunately need to send in your SAT I score as well, given that the school does NOT participate in the score-choice policy.
So in short, you will need to send in EVERYTHING. However, note that many elite institutions only use the HIGHEST score submitted by the student, whether it is single-sitting or combined.
Your SAT and ACT scores are not significantly different. Also, many colleges consider the English and math sections of the ACT the more important and if those two are the lower two in your 35 composite, your ACT could actually be considered lower than your SAT. Moreover, the concordance tables you find online comparing SAT and ACT scores are guidelines that colleges do not necessarily follow, including because those tables are based on scores from 7 to 8 years ago and colleges may be using more recent score data to make a comparison.
In other words, your assumption that your ACT score is better than your SAT may not be correct and since both are high scores, you should likely send both unless you cannot afford to do so. There are some colleges that require you to send all scores although it does not include most ivies as mentioned above. Only Yale, Cornell, and Penn have an all scores rule of the ivies, and for the other ivies you can send what you want. If a college requires all scores of either or both tests, you should send all. They all claim to use only your highest scores to determine admission and thus sending all will not be held against you unless you believe all those colleges are bold face liars (in which case why apply to them). In any event, simply withholding test scores when ordering them sent through the testing agencies may not alone prevent a college from learning your scores. Many high schools put all your scores on your official transcript sent to colleges and thus, if yours does that, withholding scores via the testing agency may accomplish nothing except to prove to a college that you tried to withhold scores.
