I recently took the ACT and got a 34 on it. I would probably max out at 2150 on the SATs, so I'm thinking I should just skip those altogether. Do top colleges prefer the SAT to the ACT? Will it help me to take the SAT too, even if I get 21-something? And finally, should I kill myself trying to raise the 34 to a 35? Will that make a significant difference?

A 34 is awesome for an ACT score, so great job. A 34 on the ACT does look better than a 2150 on the SAT's, and because the ACT can replace SAT II's, I suggest just skipping the SATs all together. Top colleges take either one and don't have a preference. It's up to you if you want to try to raise it up to 35/6- I think your score is just fine.

you might not wanna skip the sats altogether...if your in contention for national merit finalist...its a requirement that you take it...

i would take the SAT 2s because certain schools do require ACT with 2 sat 2s such as NYU, Columbia, and Dartmouth. I would not, however, take the SAT 1 because if you do and end up having to take and send SAT 2s, the SAT 1 score will automatically be sent with them.
