I have to completely disagree with cookiemunster. I went to two info sessions at Princeton given by two different admissions officers and I purposely asked each how Princeton views the writing section. Both said that they give the writing section just as much weight as the critical reading and math sections. However, they both stressed that Princeton very seldom looks at the essay portion. They also said that they found that the writing scores were more or less similar to the other sections' for those they admitted.

Good thing about the essay, because I apparently can't write anything of worth, especially on my opinion of the meaning of life in the universe, in 25 minutes.

I always only get 1 or 2 wrong in the MC section of the writing.

just jot down "42" and Life, Universe, and Everything is covered.

I'm glad that they look at the Writing section because it's a new section, prep classes haven't been able to fully analyze it, and so the people who shell out money for SAT prep can't gain much of an advantage. I went to an $85 prep class myself (I swear, it lowered my first SAT score), but the people who pay more than $500 have too much money. Give it to me, because PS3 is "$599 US DOLLARS".

yay for people who don't do prep :)
I think SATs would be more fair if nobody was allowed to take prep classes. That would eliminate the problem of low-income families having a disadvantage because they can't pay for expensive SAT classes/tutors.

Exactly. The SAT blue book was what helped, not the course. When I see price tags in the hundreds for a prep class I feel sick, but not as sick as when I see that counselors cost in the thousands. Those people have enough money; they don't need to go to college!

I personally used Collegeboard's SAT prep book and i think it really gave me solid preparation for the real thing. What i suggest is, about one week before the SAT test, take one practice test each day until test day. Write two essays everyday and time yourself. I don't think they expect too much in 25 minutes... It still beats me how I got 10 for my essay when what i wrote was really crap. my school teacher would've probably failed it...

dude... I missed only three in the writing and got all 12 in the essay portion yet got 760.
THe curve in Oct. was FREAKIN harsh............. compared to any other test that I have taken.
(last time, I missed 4 and got 8 on the essay and got 710.)
