SAT

I am an international student, and I have just graduated from high school. I have completed my O and A levels under the British Curriculum of Edexcel. I have taken my SAT this October, and I am waiting to get my results on the 27th. My predicted score is 1200-1300. But I am considering retaking the SAT in the coming December. I am planning to apply to Princeton, Columbia, John Hopkins, Georgetown, University of Virginai. I haven’t taken any SAT subject tests. I have 9 A*s on my IGCSE O levels and 4As on IAL A levels. Is it absolutely necessary for me to sit for SAT subject tests? Since most of the regular decisions are around January, should I take the subject tests by this November? I am planning ti take up Economics as my major.

1200-1300 is extremely low for all of those schools you’ve just named btw. Yes, you have to take at least 2 subject tests, and I think Georgetown asks for three subject test results. You can take your subject tests in January for regular decision round if you’re unprepared.

I am aware that 1200-1300 is a pretty poor score for the schools I am looking at. So, I am planning to retake my SAT in December. That leaves me with two options. I can either take my SAT subject tests in November or in January. Most of the schools I have mentioned have their regular decision deadline in the first week of January. So can I submit my SAT subject results by the end of January? Will my application be considered without the subject tests? And what subjects should I take if I want to do a major in Economics? @blu5959

Btw Georgetown requires students to take the SAT and SAT subjects tests by no later than January of their senior year. And I have already completed my A levels (12th grade American sysytem) in August 2016. So does this mean I am no longer eligible to apply to Georgetown? @blu5959

No, you are working of a different calendar. January of the academic year in which you are applying is fine.

4 A’s at A level is great- what subjects?

Thanks so much!! @collegemom3717
My subjects are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Would my application be considered complete without the SAT subject tests if I apply to Georgetown? Their deadline is on the 10th of January. If I take my SAT subject tests on January 21st, my results will arrive on the 23rd of February? Will this be a disadvantage to my application? Should I think about taking the tests in November instead? @collegemom3717

Take Math Level 2 and another subject test of your choice for Economics I reckon. If you’ve done well on A levels then subject tests should be a breeze for you, have a look at the practice exams and just do it in November if you can comfortably clear 750+ (although I do recommend trying for 800 for math level 2 especially)

Agree with @blu5959- take the November. You should be well able for the material- just do some practice tests to refresh & get familiar with the format.
