SATII Math2 and US History in November

Hey guys, I'm going to be a senior this year, and i was planning on retaking two subject tests. In the past, I've gotten a 690 on Chem, a 670 on Math2, and a 640 on US History. I figured that US History and Math 2 would be the easiest to improve, so I want to take these tests in November. What are the best books to buy and free online resources to use to study for these two tests? and did I make a good choice in picking to retake US History and Math2 to get a mid 700 to a 800? (I am planning on Ivy League Schools, and want to have the best chance possible. I am also trying to get my normal SAT score from a low 2000 to atleast a 2200 in October). Thank you

bump? i cant seem to find the forum where i had seen the best resources for all the subject tests. any help?

I would suggest buying Kaplan for sat math. It’s extremely comprehensive. I’ve never taken the us history test and am not planning to do so, so I don’t know what to suggest for that. It is definitely a good choice to retake. Doing so will prove your knowledge in those subject areas. Also, for an ivy league, 700+ is always better.

How did you do on the math2 exam, and how comfortable were you with the subject material before you started studying foe math2?

I’ve also seen that there are a Princeton review and a barrons book for this subject. Should I check those out? If so which ones?

I have yet to take math 2. I’ve taken h precalc already, will take ap calc next year. So i’m pretty familiar with the material.

barrons makes you over prepared. but that’s not always a bad thing…I think PR is good too…idk?

i think barron is the best for math 2 even though it’s total overkill. For US HISTORY i would suggest Amsco preparing for the AP US HISTORY. it’s very good. Btw i’m also taking us history and math 2 in november

I didn’t learn too much in my precalc class this year, and I am taking AP Calculus BC. Would it be wise to get the Barrons book and study for Math 2 from that, and so it also serves as a refresher for the basis of Calculus?

For US History, I started reading Amsco (without knowing it was Amsco), but got a 4 on US, while I got a 630 on US. I read maybe the first couple chapters of the book, and stopped there (maybe if I read he whole thing it may help). Is this truly the best resource for US History?

I personally found that reading Crash Course (published by REA) for USH was most helpful; it hits all of the highlights/things you need to know for the test. AMSCO is helpful if you need a more thorough review, which you might since I’m assuming you took APUSH last school year and may have forgotten information.
As for math, I used Princeton Review and Barron’s. PR is good for the conceptual review and relatively realistic tests (though they were a little easier than the actual thing, IMO). Barron’s is only really necessary if you’re going for 750+ as their practice exams are much harder than the real thing.

You don’t need any calculus for the math 2 test. Just precalc. Buying a book that refreshes the basics of calc will not help you at all.

I meant that studying for the Math 2 serves as refresher for the basis of Calculus (I haven’t learnt any Calculus yet, so I dont know what to expect). I know that Calculus is not on Math 2.

Swimstar, so AMSCO would be a good resource to stick with for the SAT2 for US History? I got a 640 last time, and I am aiming for atleast a 750 this time. I’m aiming for atleast a 750 (from a 670) on Math2 also, so would it be better to invest in a Princeton Review Book for Math2 first, and then buy the Barrons Book for practice?

i would say reading the barrons and doing the PR practice tests will definetly assure you an 800. Amsco is really good. I could get high 700 scores even though i’m not American nor did i ever study us history in school. Btw i’m from mongolia.

So if I reviewed the entire Barrons Math 2 book, and then purchased the PR book for test prep, that would be an ok strategy? I definetly will use Amsco for test prep. Two high 700s for SATII tests will definetly help me out for college admissions.

yeah and also consider buying the collegeboard math book to know where you at

do you mean the collegeboard book with a practice test for each subject?

^You could buy it just for 2 tests or go to a book store and use it there for free.

And as Zorigoo1993 said, Barrons is the way to go. But don’t be surprised if you find wrong answers/typos on he practice tests. I found a couple. But Barons is your best shot for an 800.

I have the AMSCO book for US, and am waiting for the Barrons book for math to come in the mail. Even if I just used these two resources and studied a lot from both books, are high 700s almost guaranteed?

Somebody gave me the SAT Subject test book, so I dont have to buy it thankfully

High scores are only guaranteed if you put a lot effort into studying for these two tests. As previous posters have said, those two resources are very good at covering what you need to know. However, according to post #7, you stopped after reading the first few chapters of AMSCO the first time. If you truly want high scores on these tests, you’ll have to convince yourself that studying for the tests is worth it in the end, and put in a decent amount of hard work. Good luck!
