SATs.. argh

Ok, so I took the SAT for the third time in May and I did hideously:

720CR
730M (should be getting 800)
670W (ridiculous, usually get full marks for the MCs - 8 on the essay.. let down)

That makes a 2120..
I know I can get 800 for M, and possibly a 800 for W. CR is really as good as it is going to get for me though.

Does Duke accept score choice? If so, should I retake for a 4th time? Also, thats make 1450 CR + M (1490 Super-score).. so does it only look at CR+M?

The average SAT score for accepted Duke students last cycle is 2170, you’re definitely in line with competition :D

Would a 4th time be worth it if I focus on just Math and Writing (to get 800)?

^ IMO, no. Some colleges actually “suggest” that you take it no more than 2 times. 4 times might catch someones attention, you don’t want that …

At this point forget the SAT and concentrate on the other things. (write a killer essay) What is your GPA? I was admitted with a 2200 SAT, but a 4.0 uw GPA (10 APs). Even got a LL …

I am an international, which I think makes the situation worse. I have a 42/43 out of 45 predicted.

Jebar-
If you HAVENT taken the SAT II yet, DONT post “predicted” scores. Thsi is dishonest and will NOT help you get accurate info/help here.

quite honestly, your canadian math contests wouldnt help. Dont even list them on your resume…

Why won’t the canadian maths contests help?

I think taking the SAT I one more time wouldn’t hurt - especially if you can get it up to closer to 2200/possibly above that. Your EC’s and marks seem really good. I am also an international and I was predicted a 42 out of 45 for IB and Duke accepted me. My SAT I’s were slightly better than yours though (2290), although my SAT II’s were worse. (I had 790 in Math II and 730 in French listening). Good luck!

The “1 mark off Distinction” thing might not help. I’m not familiar with the impressiveness of that award, but to me it seems like you’re saying “I ALMOST got this scholarship/award/whatever…but not quite.” And that’s not really something to put on an application. I also don’t think it’s wise to take the SATs more than 3 times; what’s more important is what you do outside of school and your grades.
