So I understand that Duke superscores the
SAT, but they require you to send in your
whole testing record. Does anyone know if
they take into acount the number of retakes?
I took the SAT twice.
First time in March: (690 CR /720 M/
790 W)
Second time in June: (650 CR/760 M/750 W)
I’m thinking about retaking, especially cuz of tge printing error in June that caused my
math score to drop 40 points for one missed
problem, and since my CR is so low.
Three is usually pretty standard. If you really think you’ll improve by taking it again, go for it. But keep in mind that anything over three might lead the admission officer to question why you’re spending so much of your time on testing.
It’s just one more time. I don’t need it to go up by a lot, and I spent most of my time the first try preparing for writing so I did best on that. Same thing for the second time and the math score.
Seems to me that you’re already within the mid-range of accepted SATs, so why go through the test taking stress and the risk of a lower score…might be better to focus on your essays.
Adding on to what AttorneyMother said, I had a similar CR and lower M score than you but got in. I quickly dropped the SAT after my first attempt and focused on the ACT. Scores were 35M and 34R, which I’m sure were given more weight than my SAT sub-scores. If the SAT isn’t working for you, definitely give the ACT a shot.
Hypothetically speaking, if you took it 3 times but only sent in 2 scores to them, what would happen? Would they even know that there was a remaining exam score the student had since they didn’t send it to Duke (or any other university with the same policy)? CollegeBoard uses score choice so whichever scores you send are the only ones they can see right? Does Duke check to see how many times you took the SAT compared to how many scores you sent in?
