660 verbal 750 math 680 writing...retake SAT a fourth time to get a higher score for DUKE University?? Is it worth it? I know Duke is very SAT Stat based so anyone think its worth it if i can score 100+ points?

Just look at their common data set. Your chances go way up with your score. Having any score below their median in that subject hurts. The verbal score is key, and the 660 is not competitive at top schools without a hook. If you are an excellent basketball player disregard this completely!

I'm also assuming you're a junior so colleges will not see that you have taken it 4 times. I had an adcom tell me that two times is OK, 3 is iffy and 4 raises eyebrows considerably.

Really try the ACT, for Duke if you take the ACT you don't even have to send in SAT I or SAT II scores. I got a 2070 on the SAT, lower than yours, but on the ACT I got a 34, so definitely try it.

In all honesty, if you take it a fourth time I think you are unlikely to do better, I think statistics have shown that the more times you take it over a certain number it actually hurts.

Whens the next ACT?

while it's great to have like a 2200+ score or whatever,it isn't very good to take it too much (well, that's my opinion anyway). Besides, I would think that after taking it 4 times already, the chances of boosting by 100 points would be a bit lowered wouldn't they?

I got almost the same scores, 10 less in both writing and reading. Granted, I am not applying to Duke. I preferred UNC Chapel-Hill more. Either way, taking the SAT too many times may raise suspicions. A 2090 is by no means a bad score, so don't worry about it too much.

What's your strategy for getting a higher score next time? How involved are you in your extracurricular activities? That's important to Duke also.

Hmmm good question, I know i can definitely increase my writing by writing a better essay; I can improve math possibly if im very careful; reading ill just practice a lot (i got the vocabulary down-0 wrong last time). Also every time i took the sat I went up by atleast 80 points so im sure i can bring it up alittle this time too although its going to be harder of course but i mean theres nothing to lose right? And yes, im highly involved in my extracurricular activities and got good recs, very good essay, etc etc. The only thing i think that may keep me from being accepted is my sats. SO should i retake?

NOOOOO DO NOT RETAKE THE SAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Focus on something else, even try the ACT trust me it is ALOT easier

unless it goes above a 2200 its not going to matter. what about your previous three attempts. if you couldnt improve that much in those tries what do you think duke will think? its either 2200+ or bust for u bud (assuming u go ahead with the 4th time)

Starting in 2010, collegeboard will introduce a new policy where you can CHOOSE which score to send to the colleges...
So, seeing that you're a junior, you should talk to your counselor or call collegeboard to clarify exactly how the policy will work. If you can take the SATs as many times as you want, AND hide the number of times you took it from the colleges, there's no reason for you to try for a higher score!! Good luck :)

I dont think he ever said he was a junior, the first poster assumed... however regardless of whether you are or are not a junior I think you should definitely take it again if you think you can get a higher score.
