Just wondering whether Columbia, or colleges in general, only care about your composite SAT.
For example, i applied to engineering and i have 800 math but like 640 Verbal. The 640 is low, but 1440 isn't that horrible. Will they really look down to the 640?
and what about in non-engineering schools

They care about each score. At SEAS, it isn't the end of the world to have a low Verbal. They'd rather not have one-dimensional people who are total math/science geeks, but some of those types do get in.

A 640 isn't going to wow anybody, but it's not at the point where they're going to wonder if you're competent in the verbal arena.

obviously for engineering schools, your math score is what counts the most. You def have a great shot even with a 640 verbal

i wouldn't say you have a 'great' shot. lots of people who apply to SEAS have an 800 math, as well as high verbal scores.

in the end, if you're matched up with an applicant who has the same credits as you, perhaps even a slightly lower math score, but a pretty good verbal score (700s), you might be at a bit of a disadvantage.

gottcha
thanks guys
