Does UNC look at writing? Because I'm 800 CR 780 writing 660 math...so I would really like for them to consider writing...

I don’t think UNC really considers the writing portion of the SAT. My son applied to Duke, UNC, Wake, NC State, & Pitt. I think Duke was the only school that really considers the writing portion. My son was accepted to all the schools except Duke. Just so happens, the writing portion was his weakness on the SAT. If you are instate I suspect you will not have a problem getting accepted to UNC with your scores.

You can google “common data set” “university of north carolina” 2010 and see what they look at … remember, this data combines in state and OOS so can be a bit misleading overall, but it will tell you if writing is considered.

I actually had very similar scores to you, OP. Yours are slightly better (though I’m Hispanic).

I had 780CR, 770W, and 630M. They offered me a full scholarship to the Honors college for merit. But the scholarships are not based on scores alone; essays, activities, and other factors all play significant roles of course.

are you in state or oos?

Out.

If you’re in then you are definitely in. If not, you’ve got a great shot.

They absolutely do look at the writing score, and a particularly high one or particular low one can make a difference. On our campus tour, the admissions rep stated that they look at the SAT as 3 separate tests and consider each one equally.

awesome, thank you very much. thank god.
