FYI for days to save, in case you are admitted:
Third World Welcome (TWW): Sunday, April 15-Monday, April 16.
A Day on College Hill (ADOCH): Monday, April 16- Tuesday, April 17
For those who don’t know what this is, these are days sponsored by the college for accepted students to come and “experience the college” to help in deciding to come to Brown. In reality, a lot of admitted students who know they are coming to Brown also choose to come to ADOC, as a way to bond with their future classmates, and generally have a fun time at Brown.

I don’t know if this has changed, but I believe these events are for RD students and not ED students, FWIW.

This has not changed. There was a lunch a few weeks ago for admitted ED students, but they will not be invited to ADOCH. Only admitted RD students will be invited.

Question regarding ADOCH 2012: your posts suggest it is Monday-Tuesday, 4/16-17, but the Bruin Club website refers to parents being on their own in Providence on Tuesday, which suggests Tues.-Wed. schedule - an insights?

Thanks

My Likely Letter says that all of the dates are April 15-17. April 15 is TWW. That could be from last year, or, the parents could still be on their own on tuesday, the last day of the program.

These dates are from the Admissions and Alumni center info. Parents are “on their own” on the second day of ADOC because the students are expected to go to classes etc with their host students. (and a lot of students go to ADOC sans parents, FYI. Just put them on the train or plane and let them go. They’ll be okay. Time to start trusting.)

Does anyone think it is odd that ADOCH covers the same dates as Yale’s Bull Dog Days? Yale posted those days in December and Brown only recently announced ADOCH dates so it certainly knew this would be a problem for cross admitted students. Even though Yale usually prevails on that cross admit battle, I would think that Brown would give students a chance to experience both. Also, although logistically it is more challenging to include the ED students at ADOCH, one would think they would be welcomed there since they are some of the strongest flag wavers for the Bruin Class of 2016 and would generate an enthusiasm for others to attend. I’m not quite understanding what the Brown adcoms are thinking.

YaleGrad: I don’t really know about the overlapping dates.

As for the inclusion of ED students, it’s really a factor of having somewhere for them to stay. The ADOCH committee has a hard enough time fitting all the RD admits in rooms with current students as it is, and including ED students as well would make it absurd. I’m saying this as a former ED admit who felt left out of ADOCH, but now that I’ve seen it first-hand I understand.

I don’t know the policy of other schools about including ED students at April recruitment days but knowing Yale the best, they manage to include everyone in Bull Dog Days. Admittedly the SCEA applicants need some “recruitment” too since they are not committed but they have a high anticipated yield and their enthusiasm is infectious. Yale and Brown are pretty close in undergraduate size. I don’t have the ADOCH attendance vs. Bull Dog Days attendance close at hand but it is hard to believe it is logistically unfathomable at one and doable at the other.
