just out of curiosity, who included a picture in their app? :)

I did.

screw this 10 character limit

I did as well.

i actually ended up scanning one of my senior portrait proofs that i just got in the mail... it says "prestige portraits" on it. i wouldnt have, but it came out good... i hope the admissions people dont think thats weird.

.....i did too, its a very good idea...gives ur app personality.

my son included his senior picture as well. We bought the proofs, but he had to cut and paste to get rid of the "do not copy-proofs" on it. Why do you think they want the pictures? He stated he was a white male so there's no surprise when they see the picture.

I've never been able to figure it out. I think one reason may be to help them remember who you are if you met with them before. I don't think it's a screen on people trying to "fake" being diverse.

I thought about putting my senior portrait, but yeah it had the prestige watermark.. lol. And yeah Columbia2002 on the app it says so they can possibly match you up with someone they've met. Though I also agree with Shraf.

I included a photo of myself in my traditional ukrainian gypsie dance costume. :P Cool stuff.

It's a mnemonic helper for the admissions officer. Every time they see your app, it has a face associated with it, so facts associated with that app are recalled easier by their memory. When it comes up in committee, they'll say "oh, ok, Elizabeth here, I remember all about her..."

Having spent 4 years there, I don't think anyone needs to worry about them filtering for good looks :-P

amen to that.....

though come on, noone can deny that looks count for something but i think what happens is looks count for something EVERYWHERE...so the attractive ones tend to choose harvard and princeton over columbia for the increased name recognition....

this is just a theory i came up with in the last 2 minutes though

At least when i'm drunk on a thursday night, the theories I come up with involve video games or why my friends aren't getting laid, not college admissions =P

...if only i were drunk right now!

...i've been sitting here for the past four hrs writing my java hw :-/

...as a result this is the only thing i will be theorizing about....unfortunately

that's good to know, my tag name is only what my dad started calling me when I ran into the usual esteem issues.

Well, by the fact that you're posting on a message board asking for external validation of your chances at success, i'd say at least his heart was in the right place. :-P

Beauty fades, wit will always be sexy.

I sent a picture as well. I just used a picture my sister took- nothing fancy.

i think they want the picture not for the application process, but for the student ids once you get in. or atleast thats what my friend at columbia told me
