A friend’s husband died suddenly yesterday from Covid. He leaves two college age children and a son in his early twenties.
This is not over people.
Today I have a hard time hearing the “we need to get back to normal” argument.
Nothing will ever be normal for this family again.
Crying all over again. And pissed.
The popcorn is in the microwave as we speak.
It’s amazing to me what people will believe.
Do you ever stop and think, what did we talk about before COVID?
I am sad that lunar new year is this weekend and Chinatown is empty. Another round of events that aren’t happening due to Covid. My daughter and I always enjoyed seeing lion dances and being part of the other holiday festivities.
A year ago this week, I was calling my dad’s former students to tell them they might want to call and say goodbye because he didn’t have much time left. The Dean of Engineering connected me to the UT Band Director, who agreed to send a few band members to play at Dad’s funeral (Dad has been one of UT’s biggest supporters for 60 years).
This week, he is hosting a two-day virtual Forensic Engineering conference through UT-Austin. He arranged all the speakers and is introducing each of the seventeen of them. Dad comped my husband and me, so we are getting to watch it (and get 16 hours of continuing education credits, which we need to maintain our licenses). I pinned the Zoom view of Dad so I can see him the entire time. I could cry, seriously.
From a different era but a good honest plea
“Come on, people now
smile on your brother
Everybody get together
try to love one another right now”
I AM NOT REPLYING!! But @MaineLonghorn gave the most touching story I have heard in a long time. It is SO nice to have positivity, especially these days.
No, it’s not the same thing.
I feel like the little brother in Christmas Story, all bundled up for my walk in the bitter cold. Hope I don’t fall down!
As a community college educator, I am already predisposed to love Jill Biden. Found out this morning that I could love her even more when I saw the heart cutouts she arranged for the White House lawn. Such a fun & uplifting display!
There are too many elitist, obnoxious bloviators on CC. It gets so tiresome.
Our son has never been out of the country. However, he’s now on a short list for an all-expenses-paid trip to Afghanistan courtesy of Uncle Sam. So, there’s that.
This guy is so wrong for you. It’s very difficult for me to give you space to figure it out. I hope you realize it soon. You deserve so much better
I run a business. I’m amazed at the vendors who want to sell to us via messaging on Facebook and Instagram. Please use the front door. It’s not that hard to use the Contact Us on our web site.
I don’t have words for this in either of the languages I speak.
You were stupid in high school, and it appears that the years haven’t changed you at all.
