Does anyone go here or know anyone who goes here? How is the life living in the dorms that cater to UCSB and SBCC students? Does it still give that traditional college feel? Replies to this and other info about SBCC would be appreciated. Thanks

When I went to the transfer orientation for UCSB, I met a lot of people from SBCC. They all said they loved it. A few of them lived in the student housing and said it was fun. I came from an unmotivated CC from northern California, it was odd meeting people that actually enjoyed where they came from.

I have been going to SBCC since 2006 and love it. The people/weather/professors/location are great. It seems like a majority of students who don’t live at home lie in Isla Vista, the UCSB student town, and if you like to party this is your heaven. And if you don’t live in IV you will probably live in some of the apartments near SBCC which are expensive for what you get, but it’s hard to complain when you’re living in Santa Barbara. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Still in a CC after four years and loving it? I suppose that if you are independently wealthy there is no reason why you can’t stay in a CC for as long as you want but most students eventually reach a point where they are able to transfer to a four year college or failing to be accepted at a four year college they have to drop out of their CC and find a full time job.

@Lemaitre1 I went full time for one semester in '06 then took a full time job for two years and started going back full time once I lost my job. So I have been attending for four years and have been full time for a year and a half.

I took SBCC online from Fall 07 to Spring 09, I couldn’t afford to get down there and stay but the school is absolutely beautiful. From what I saw it’s not quite as large as some place like West Valley it’s still fairly large and just as I said already, absolutely incredible. I’d have stayed if I could afford the area but I just couldn’t justify $1000/month for a room that was 15x15x9 with a barely attached bathroom that looked like someone remodeled a bunch of sheds with a “southern california hawaiian” theme. Probably larger than most college dorms though.

Edit: LMAO I should have added I’m actually wearing one of my SBCC shirts right now, yay for absent-mindedness in the morning~

Edit 2: To answer the OP’s question, you know SBCC, like 99% of Community Colleges, doesn’t have its own dorms right? There are a few apartments that cater to SBCC, but more or less everyone in them (including the one I wanted to goto) went to UCSB. If you have transportation to get there you should enjoy the area, the closer you are to the school the more you’ll have to pay generally, and you’ll be walking a lot cause the streets are jammed a lot (some of those main streets by the Sambos get pretty crowded)
