SBU or UCONN?

I’ve been accepted into both Stony Brook University and the University of Connecticut, and to the University Scholars and Honors College respectively. I also received scholarships from both, and money is no longer really a factor in my decision. I want to go into Pathology with a focus on research, so I’d like to go into an MD/PhD program, but at the very least, medical school. I want an undergraduate education heavily centered on math and science, and as much research opportunities as possible. Which school would be better suited for what I want and why? I’d like to hear about the strength of each school’s degree (reputation) in the field, strength of academics, availability for research (preferably as a freshman or as early as possible), chances of getting into MD/PhD programs (otherwise known as the Medical Scientist Training Program), and success after graduation, but I’d also like to factor in things like housing arrangements, food, location, professors, etc. Input from anyone who has gone to either of the schools and wants to do/has done something similar to me would be great. Thanks!

watever is cheaper is best. none of them are excellent schools, but not bad either.

I hope you’ve visited both schools, evaluated programs, spoken to professors & dept. heads, and toured each campus so that you have a personal sense of some of the things you were questioning. You might also want to google Naturally@UConn and read about pathobiology student and research opportunities. It may give you some insight into UConn. (I might also check out other departments for this type of info.) Good luck with your decision!

I don’t think you can go wrong with either school. If you are from CT, I would pick SBU, and if you are from NY, go to UCONN.
