SC Moves UP in U.S. News Rankings-Just Out

SC has now moved above the Univ. of Michigan to hold #26 in the latest U.S. News Rankings. UVA and UCLA tied at #24, which left the 25th spot open.

Marshall School of Business did well. It was ranked #10, tied with Cornell.

Marshall is now nationally ranked in five programs:
Entrepreneurship #3rd
Accounting #5
International Business #5th
Real Estate #6th
Marketing #10

I’m very proud to be a Trojan. This is a great victory, the next will be over UVA and UCLA.

Cool! Thanks Georgia Girl. :)

That’s great! I’m proud to be a Trojan!

Fight on !!!

What was it last year?

Last year we were 27th and moved ahead of Tufts Univ. Our score was 70. This year we moved ahead of Univ. of Michigan to 26th and our score went up to 71.

This year…
Our alumni giving ranking was 7th in the nation. Faculty student ratio was excellent at 1/9.

The acceptance rate online was 21.9%. Acceptance rate for some other universities was: Duke 22.8%, Vanderbilt 25.3, Northwestern, 26.2 and Notre Dame, 26.7%.

Harvard’s acceptance rate was outstanding at 7.9%. Univ. of Pennsylvania was 16.9%.

Our freshman retention rate is a very good 96%.

I’m thinking what’s holding out USC is peer assesment. It’s probably the measure that would take most time to change, and it’s probably a bit unfair to represent 25% of the overall score. Last time I checked, only 25% of those asked to submit assesments actually responded.

awesome
i just got to USC yesterday and am absolutely in love with the place  sooo amazing!
DEFINITELY proud to finally be a trojan!! :D:D

and yea, were gonna own fucla! thatll be an awesome day :D:D:D

Yes, our peer assessment is holding us back, slight improvement and we will break the top 25 easily.

this is pretty cool.

but i would like to point out: this bump up in the rankings isnt so much USC doing better than UM, its more like UM sucking this year and dropping a spot. just sayin.

whatever, ill take it for what its worth.

Georgia Girl, I just wanted to correct you that our score is 72 not 71. :)

What is the difference between the score and the ranking?

There is no difference between the overall score and ranking because US News ranks universities based on their overall score. However, the peer assessment score is not completely correlated with the rank because US News does not weigh the peer assessment score as 100%.

DJ,
Thank you. I did not notice the error. It is 72.

nhs, I’d argue that there is somewhat of a correlation between the peer assessment score and the overall score - 25% is significant enough to nudge a ranking. If there is a 25% improvement in the peer assessment score, there is a 6% overall increase, which may possibly increase the score. Eh, who knows exactly how their algorithms work.

That’s what I was saying. By stating “not completely correlated”, I was citing that there is partial correlation. Your point is correct.

Put this in the Michigan forum or the main College Search section. The UM people would not be very happy, lol.
