SCAD vs SAIC vs VCU vs Cornish College

Hey folks,

Senior in high school here, looking to major in graphic design and got into four schools (scad, saic, vcu, cornish college of the arts). Money is not a huge issue, so I have been having trouble deciding on where to go. Any new perspectives would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dylan

I have a similar situation. Right now, I’m torn between VCU and Calarts. (For VCU I would consider double majoring in illustration, graphic design, or printmaking) I know Calarts has a bigger name, but is it really worth it? I went to the accepted students day event and people say that they work in their studios for 16 hours a day. I just get worried that I’ll start looking at art as just work. If anyone has any opinions or insight on either program, I would really appreciate it.

and to dhalpern:
I don’t know if this means anything but when I told a professor at Calarts the schools I was considering (Pratt, Parsons, SCAD, VCU) he told me VCU was the best of the bunch for graphic design and didn’t recommend SCAD.

Hey there!

Saw your post about choosing between the four schools.

Personally, I don’t have any knowledge of anything related to graphic design but I will be going to Cornish College of the Arts in the fall for BFA Acting :)

I’ve connected with some of the people going to Cornish next year who are going into the design program and they showed me some of their artwork and let me say, these are some REALLY talented people. So no doubt, Cornish has a really strong Class of 2015 pool in my defense.

Otherwise, Seattle is just freaking beautiful. I don’t know where you’re from but I’m from Minneapolis. So OBVIOUSLY, I live in an ice cube. Some rain and ocean breezes will be nice. I think Seattle will be a good fresh start, it’s a really well developed place for the arts and you can always transfer if you feel you don’t belong (people keep telling me this) but I think I’ll really enjoy Cornish :)

Anyway! Keep me posted! Feel free to add me on Facebook so you can join the Cornish group and maybe talk to some of the other design students :)
