Scad

Looking for any current info about SCAD's MT program. Is there a mandatory audition? Does anyone have experience with the program? Any info would be appreciated.

My son auditioned for SCAD at NY Unifieds and was accepted last year, with a pretty good scholarship. (They have both talent money and academic money, and he got both.) It’s an interesting school, with a real reputation in fields like animation, and also a focus on getting their students jobs. They have a casting director on campus, for instance. I believe that the BFA is not MT or acting, but something like “Performing Arts”, which is more multidisciplinary. All SCAD students have to take three mandatory courses in design, for instance, which worried me, given that it would only take a couple of Cs to jeopardize scholarship, and my son has never been that good at visual arts. The new head of performing arts has an incredible resume, though. You should check it out.

Thanks so much. That is very helpful.

SCAD has a policy where all the freshman take core classes but I have never heard anyone have issues with them. I have met many SCAD students through my interactions with community theatre and they are very enthusiastic, talented and creative, and love the program.
