I my really scared about my getting into the boarding schools I want to.
I am applying for several boarding schools such as:

andover
loomis
lawerenceville
taft
hill
st paul

i get about B's in school and my extra curricular activities are about sports, musicals, and writing.
The problem is i think i did really poorly on the ssat.
i took the jan 6th one and i think i probably got a low percentile. if i got about a 60% or something, would I probably not get accepted?

though, for andover my brother went there, would that be effective?

You could probably make Hill, Loomis, or Lawrenceville. Consider applying to Choate, as I heard from someone here that kids with 60 SSATs can still get in there.

If you want to go down a few tiers, apply to Tabor, Concord, Millbrook, or Mercersburg. Episcopal High School is another good option.

Can you give us a better assessment of yourself?

Do something like this:
GPA (average in school)
SSAT (on real or practice test):
Ranking:
Honors Classes:

Sports: Varsity or non-Varsity

Extra-curricular: church, music, other activities, etc.

What Olivia said about your stats was right; we need more information. However, Olivia, I think that Concord is at least on par with Hill, Loomis, and Lawrenceville, or perhaps above. The Hill's SSAT average is 72%, and Concord's is 80%; Hill's acceptence rate is 38%, and Concord's is 32%, and Lawrenville's and Loomis's numbers are similar.

prettyckitty, you said Lawrenville's acceptance rate and Loomis's are similar. Is it really true? I thought that Lawrenceville would be harder to get in than Loomis. And more competition too.

I'm not positive of Loomis's numbers, so don't take my word for it. I just meant that Loomis's numbers weren't better than Concord's, which I'm pretty sure they're not.

Lawrenceville's acceptance rates were 25% for the class entering the fall of 2005, and it probably dropped last year which was very competitive. It is more competitive than Loomis. This is from Petersons. Boardingschoolreview sometimes has old numbers.

Boardingkid8 -- If your grades are Bs and you think you did not do as well as you had hoped on the SSAT, why not add a few schools that are not as competitive as the schools on your list?

my son is 66% -68 % percent range. He is applying Westtown, Episcopal High School . Some poster here said Mercersburg is a little tough for him. Hill is so formal for him. You might want to look up Westtown.

Episcopal High School is a great school, but it is formal. It is very dissimilar from Westtown which, like all the Quaker schools, is very casual. In many respects, EHS is like Hill with a dress code and sit down lunches. In fact Hill's Headmaster was graduated from EHS and spent many years there as a teacher and administrator. It sounds like Mercersburg would be a good fit. It too is a wonderful school and it is easier to get into than either EHS or Hill. Peddie may also be a good fit.

Everyone is extremely worried.
If you have passion for the school, it will show. They will notice that.
If you envy their culture and tradition- that will show.
I'm not saying your grades, recs, etc. don't play a role, because they do.
But i see in your post your worried about your scores etc.
Sell what you have- but let your passion show! =]

Boardingkid - honestly, with B's and SSAT's in the 60's Andover and St. Pauls are going to be a stretch for you. Fact that your brother goes/went to Andover will help, but these two schools are among the most competative in the country. Know less about some of the other schools on your list.

Concord is pretty competative, although less than SP and Andover. If you're applying as a boarder it will be a little easier to get in. It is a wonderful school though, particularly if you are an "arty" kid.
