SCEA EAD blah blah

Someone explain to me what all this early decision and SCEA (??) and all this stuff means.

Thank you.

SCEA - Single choice early action: you can only apply EARLY to the college you're applying under SCEA choice, and cannot apply to any other colleges under any early-applying choice whatsoever

EX:

Stanford SCEA
WUSTL RD
NYU RD
WESLEYAN RD
HAMILTON RD ETC ETC ETC .

SCEA is single choice non-binding, but you can apply to schools that have rolling admissions as long as they are not binding. EA is simply non-binding early admission. ED is binding, you sign a contract that you will attend if accepted.

Whats the difference between SCEA and EA?

SCEA: you can only apply to one college early, but if accepted, you don't have to commit to going there. you can apply to as many other colleges as you want, as long as it's Regular Decision or non-binding Rolling Admission.

EA: early deadline, early notification, non-binding, you can apply to as many other colleges as you want, whether Early, Regular, or Rolling

So you have to find out if your school is an SCEA or EA, correct?

SCEA schools are Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Most schools use ED instead of EA, but top schools like Chicago, Georgetown, MIT, Caltech, etc use EA. Schools like Georgetown wont allow you to apply ED anywhere thogh, so you have to do some research when applying early so you do not void any agreements and erase your chances of getting in.
