Hey! I want to take AP US History II and AP European History I just want some feedback!
Tough to give feedback without knowing what your other classes are, the difficulty level of all of them and the workload in each of them, all of which can vary by school and by teacher.
So long as you have all the cores, then yes, it is absolutely possible to use your elective spot to take a second history class, if that’s what floats your boat.
My oldest son took AP world in 10th, AP US in 11th and is taking AP Euro this year.
I will say it seems like a lot of information to take in and keep track of for these history AP classes. He has thoroughly enjoyed them. I’m not sure if doing two at once would be to your benefit. That being said he is taking two sciences this year, AP chem and AP physics.
I would just worry about the amount of workload/memorization since the history APs cover so much. In the end you would know best what you are capable of.
Can you double up on history and still have room for all your other core subjects, including foreign language? If not, pick one. If you do have room and you love history, go for it.
Yes, I can double up in history and I only need one more year of a language
I would do a schedule of 1 of each core classes. Fill in with any credits needed to graduate if still needed such as gym, finance etc. Then with the leftovers take what you like.
If you do mean taking 2 history classes in 11th grade but postponing language then no I don’t suggest that. It is typically easier to continue in a language without a year off and taking 2 history classes in one year vs one a jr year and 1 a senior year doesn’t make a difference. Extra history is fine but if there is a non core class you have interest in that is also fine.
In terms of the workload AP history can be a ton of reading and writing so perhaps ask around at your school about workloads and see how both the same year sound to you along with your other classes and extra curricular. Some people can easily handle it and some would not want to even consider it.
What is AP US History II? No such AP course that I know of.
What type of feedback do you want? On what?
I would not double up on AP History classes if it means not taking other core (science, math classes). Both APUSH and AP Euro requires lots of reading, especially if ‘American Pageant’ is the APUSH book used at your school.
Typically you will be expected to do 150-200 pages of reading a week. I remember my son needing to do 2-3 chapters a week of reading for APUSH.
Do APUSH junior year and AP Euro senior year.
- make sure you have English, math, foreign language though level 3 or 4, a science, any graduation requirement, and one history class.
- if there fits and you only have 1 more AP, you can try it provided you’re currently getting 95+ in both English and History.
