Schedule For Winter

So far I have Song at 9 am for 31B, Chemistry 20BH with Tolbert at 11, and Gekelmen at 3 pm.

I am considering adding Pang as lab as well. I only have 13 units this quarter, and so i need 14 units minimumj this quarter for the expected cumulative progress. Without the lab, I would need like a 1 unit class or a G.E. of some sort. What should I do?

Also, what should i use my first pass on?

Bruinwalk says to avoid Baugh and Felker because they are terrible, and Tolbert actually has good reviews. Gekelman is also the second best (zocchi tops him) and musumeci isn’t that great, i hear from this forum. I’ve also got The Staff for Chem 20 L in an effort to avoid pang, which people say is bad.

What classes should I choose for my first pass? They are all required for my major, so I’m not sure which one to prioritize. I’m a chemistry major, by the way.

Some people have said that Physics series is filled up quickly, so that’s one of the classes i’ll take for first pass. I believe then that that automatically makes me required to take math 31b right away.

I’m still stuck on who to take for chemistry. The Staff, or maybe baugh in order to get zocchi for physics (rated highly).

Or if I take gekelman, my schedule would have wide gaps.

How is Song for calculus? Will I learn enough to be able to handle 32a and the rest?

I have Baugh right now in 20A and i’m unimpressed. I signed up for the staff next quarter. I too want to sign up for 31 B but am debating which professor. Any advice?
My choices are:
Song
Brown
Martin

I have Brown this quarter and he was pretty good. Midterms weren’t deadly or anything, so if you know your stuff you’ll do fine, and yet the curve will still be at high 60s, low 70s for some reason, to your benefit of course.

If you signed up for the staff for chemistry, however, you can’t take Brown so that’s too bad.

I heard that Martin should definitely be avoided, although no one states why. Do you learn in his class and his midterms are just hard, or do you not learn and the midterms are hard?

On Bruinwalk, someone mentioned that if you want easy tests, you should take Song, but if you want to learn Calculus, to take Parker, but alas, he is not available to take, so I’m guessing Song will be better than Martin.

Someone please comment on Martin. Also, someone who has experience with a hard schedule tell me if my schedule of Staff for Chem 20L, Gekelman for physics 1a, Tolbert for 20BH, and Song for Cal 31b is too much to handle. This is the suggested path on the chemistry hand book, and I don’t want to be behind on course work for lower division junk.

@coldness: those four classes are completely doable.

^ i ended up not taking that class. i think one of my friends is taking him. if so, then he said the midterm was easy but the average was high ~80/100. i like his grading option so if you mess up on the midterm you can redeem yourself on the final. good deal assuming you get your act together.

So, based on these reviews, should I take Song or Martin for calculus? It appears they both require self studying.

^^^ Ive heard better things about Song than Martin, mostly that his tests are straightforward and relatively easy
