Hi, this is my first post on this board but I've been following it for a while.

I'm a rising Junior, and I have some issues with my schedule:

AP Chem
Critical Reading/Writing H
French III H
Russian Lit (I was randomly put into this)
Pre Calc H
Band H
AP European History

I'm considering calling my GC and making it look more like this:

AP Lang and Comp
AP Bio (or Honors Physics, I can't decide which)
French
Some Elective (Or physics, depending when the class is)
Pre Calc
Band
AP Euro

I don't know whether to go for Physics (I'm considering majoring in Chem E at college, so I'd def. need to take it) or AP Bio...

People say that AP is kind of like regular courses accelerated, while IB is just a whole new program altogether. MOst people that I know of say that IB is way harder, but I don't know for sure since I've never taken AP before.

I think that IB requires more understanding and thinking than AP though. According to people from cc, AP doesn't look challenging (as in course level) at all.

if your school has IB than that's good, but most US schools don't have it. I mean I'd never even heard of it before I got to cc.

I think IB is overrated. I'm not in it, and I'm in the same boat as celebrain25, I just learned about it through CC. How much more can high school get? AP doesn't look that challenging...because it is like an introductory class, hence the fact that the school you decide to attend will give you credit for like a 100s course. High school isn't meant to be college....and I think that IB stresses that too much. From what I hear, it burns people up, which is a sad thing to see on such good talent.

Ok so i called the schedule guy again today. Apparently I cant take pre-calc cuz it conflicts with some other APs i have. I could take honors calculus or regular calculus i forget exactly what it is. Anyway I didnt wanna take this before because its for people interested in taking AP statistics. But if they let me in AB calc without taking precalc, i dont see why i couldnt do BC next year if i take regular calc. Im a bit worried though about sticking with 5 aps, and not being prepared for calc AB. Does anyone know the difference between regular calc and pre-calc?

huge difference. one is basically a review of algebra 2 the other is calculus. if you're a math person you'll do fine though

which is which?

what do you mean

im guessing precalc is a review of alg 2 and calc is calc?

correct................

ah cool. So ill call again tomorrow and just switch from AB calc to regular calc and take music appreciation too. I think thatd prbly be the best idea.

rising senior

I'm not sure how I feel about my schedule yet. Im figuring that I will probably have some scheduling conflicts but we will see. Sorta excited to see how this will all work out, but i'm sorta guessing it might be too much.

My school only lets my grade take like two APs...they made the AP history classes seniors-only.

Schedule:

Question, r AP courses full year or half year for you guys?

Ok ive got a problem.....today i called the head of the math department. Apparently, he says i cannot take AB calc or honors calc without honors precalc. He agreed to letting me take regular calc this year and AB calc next year, but not BC. If im going into engineering/science though, im guessing colleges will wanna see me take BC, not AB. In order to take honors precalc, i think i might have to give up one of my AP science classes which i really dont wanna do. After doing honors chem and physics last year, it would be much better to take the APs this year instead of forgetting everything and then trying to take them senior year. Well ill discuss it again tomorrow with him. Hopefully, ill be able to drop US history or english at worst. Ill also ask if maybe i can take an online course if i take regular precalc so that i can take BC senior year. But incase it doesnt work out, which would be best? Take regular precalc and AB senior year or take honors precalc, BC senior year, and drop AP chemistry or physics (maybe i could get another AP science if im lucky) and do the one i drop senior year

btw i should mention my AP physics teacher would be really ****ed if i dropped the class. The thing is, me and my dad made a big fuss about AP physics not being held this year due to the lack of students signed up for it. Now that they are going to have the class, it would make him pretty angry to drop it. If i do, then so much for reccomendations from him.

coolness--some APs are a full year, some are semesters, for my school at least.

Physics
Journalism
Precalc
Photography
English AP
West Civ AP
Stats AP

I'm excited. It's a great schedule!
