I am not sure if I should go ahead and drop one or both of the Physical Education classes. I'll be working only on Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday but not Mon-Thu. Is that course work manageable and how many hours/week you think the studying outside of class will take excluding the P.E courses, and then including the P.E courses? Also, there is no time between the Statistics and Karate class..how would that work out...

I chose Karate because I was one step away from black belt 5 or 6 year ago + that was the only opened class when i registered and even now on the course schedule that best fits me. I was also top on the ladder in my H.S tennis team so wanted advance or intermediate tennis but the classes conflict and courts too damn far. Weight training is just another thing I think I really need but wasn't sure of the course load and additional class costs (uniforms, etc) either for both of them since reviewers on pick a prof didn't feel like talking much.

Here is the course schedule:

You are scheduled for 7 classes and 15 hours for Fall 2009

McCombs School of Business. PED classes won’t count towards my degree but just for fun and some activity during school year. If that fun involves ruining GPA b/c of the new +/- grading scale, then I don’t need that fun.

Edit: Actually that schedule is a bit off, I’m on the waiting list for a SOC 302 class that will replace MIS. It’s Tues/Thurs from 10-11 and Thurs from 3:30-4:30. I’m position 1 of 2, so I’m guessing I will get it.

15 hours also, but I plan on doing all my physical activity in just my free time in the afternoon (all my classes end before 2pm except Thurs and Friday). I don’t need it to be scheduled/structured. Plus I’m already at 15 hours, so I’m not going to add any more. And my dorm is right next to the gym, which has plenty of stuff.

I wouldn’t consider your schedule that difficult at all, mainly introduction classes and general education requirements. The time between Stats to Karate may be an issue. GSB is the graduate school of business, located on the West side of the McCombs building. BEL is basically where the stadium is. If you can make this in less than 10 minutes (the time you have after Stats), that’s great. I like to be early to my classes, so my only back-to-back classes are in the same small building, so I just go upstairs and I’m there. Actually I have another one, but my buildings again are far closer than your distance.

how much work does B A 101T involve? I know that class is required first year in mccombs but i’m not sure how much time it can take away. but Govt, Astronomy, Stat, and BA 324 are gonna require more time.

and by the way nxt, i added you on facebook. i found you through bulletman’s profile. i know him pretty well.

yea the four classes (govt, astronomy, Stat, and BA 324) as you guys mentioned are going to take up some time and I was also told by few others that BA 101 is not much big of a deal. Driving my way back to work, I thought “why would I even need Karate and it could possibly become a obstacle in my way if I end up not having enough time to commit to it later on” So I am going to drop Karate …just another risk I am not willing to take. However, weight lifting is something I think will wake me up at least on Tue. and Thursdays for the rest of the day lol.

Why Two Kay >> Are you coming in as a freshman b/c I see you’re taking that UGS class, sociology, and other more basic stuff (at least you’ll enjoy your first semester at UT). I am coming in as a transfer and when I met my adviser, he wasn’t as helpful as I expected him to be (same high school thing all over again…I hope the career advising is a bit more knowledgeable). Anyways, I see you are taking Microeconomics in Fall. I don’t know how motivated you are or will be, but Clepping out of it is another possibility. Personally, I think it gives a little more room in your senior year to take 4 classes instead of 5 or able to do a minor in something or just a secured spot to throw in your retakes for class, if any god forbid (hate those, never had’em). I am clepping out of Psychology. I am currently preparing with the Psychology clep book since I have some free time right now and might/not have some during school year. Just something to think about …no pressure or anything …& remember that I am a bit pessimistic too.

@Nxt: Yes, I’m coming in as a Freshman. I’m taking Microeco because it will be relatively easy, since I already have credit for Macro from the AP test. This also means the first unit or so in Micro I will already know the material, so that will help me get an A. This semester is my only General Education semester, and from here on out I already have all of my non-major stuff covered. (Except the second Govt class, which I will take in the Spring of this year). I’ll actually be over 60 hours at the end of this semester, so I will have Junior standing. I have a ridiculous ton of AP credit hours, so that’s how that happened. [46 credit hours, all are relevant except 6 hours in Comp Sci].

And my years are going to be very packed, since I’m doing in BBA/MPA integrated program, which is why I am trying to get stuff out of the way ASAP. (e.g. the CC class for Fine Art requirement.)

That’s amazing. You were smart about the choices you made and didn’t jack off like me in high school…although I did had a really good time lol. I thought about going into accounting and the MPA approach but I think I need more time to come to a final decision. I’ll be an incoming sophomore with 32 credit hours so hopefully, by the end of the sophomore year, I would have declared my major. Also, I’ll be taking three courses next summer at a community college @ my hometown Frisco which sucks and know will ruin my summer.

haha lmao i didn’t mean it that way …Take that back… I meant to say I didn’t care much about admission and universities, etc. But I came to realize it my first year of college.

Hey Nxt
I clepped out of Psychology too. That was one of my easiest cleps I have done. You should think about doing the Am Gov Clep too. I just took that one.

Why Two Kay - my son is in the BBA/MPA program also (he is a junior) - Main criteria to get in is A’s in Accounting 311 and 312, if you get a’s in both you’re in. If you get an a in one and a b in the other, if your other business school classes are a’s, you’re in. If you get 2 B’s (or worse), don’t bother applying. Many of my son’s friends are now finance majors because of those two weed out classes. Stay on top of the work!

Also, a couple of his friends took all the req’d classes in freshman year and summer school (both acct’s, MIS, BA101, both econ’s, both Calc’s, Stat309 & BA324) and got in a year ahead. With all your credit, you can do that too, if you want. I know my son is kicking himself for not doing it - he’ll be in the whole 5 years, they’ll be out in 4.

Yea really looking forward to the Psychology Clep exam. I did think about the government clep exam but there is just too much material to absorb on your own especially during the school year and I’ll be taking both history courses in the summer at a community college, so basically, it’ll be impossible the whole next school year. I will however think about Clepping that American or English Literature ENGL 316K if I have time.

ag54 >> an A in both accounting classes taken at a community college count? I haven’t thought a lot about MPA program yet but just keeping the options open.
Financial Acct - A
Managerial Acct - A
MIS 301 - A
Both Econ - A
Calc 1 - A
Calc 2 - B
BA 101 - Assume A
BA 324 - Assume B
Stat 309 - Assume A
I’ll have all of those completed at the end of this coming fall semester with around 45 credit hours.

Honestly Nxt, I’m not sure how they feel about accounting classes being taken at CC, but with the expected grades that you show, you shouldn’t have any problem at all getting in the program.
