I know I have posted my schedule like a million times but after talking to my counselor there are so many classes to take and I'm not sure which 1s please help!! This is for sophomore year.

Definates
Ap environmental science- requirement to graduate

Honors english 2- no ap

Ap statistics- stats would be more useful in my prospective major and I will get my calc in IB

Questionable

Ap chemistry- love honors chem right now and teacher is really good!

Ap computer science- cool class, lots of critical thinking and fulfills my deca requirement

Ap macroeconomics- want to be an economics major

Ap biology- don't like honors biology too much but in ap we get to dissect things and go more in depth and I heard ap bio looks good for college.

Ap physics- looks interesting but I've heard this class is notorious for
Being super hard. (don't know which physics it is. School only offers 1)

Ap psychology- seems interesting

Ap united states government- I'm interested in political science (maybe a minor) and the teacher is good.

Ap European history- I love history especially european middle ages.

Honors discrete mathematics- I don't really want to take this but I don't know if it will look bad to only
Have stats as my math class for the year.

I can have 5 of these questionable classes. I want the hardest combination of the classes possible considering I want to go to a top tier college. Thanks

If I were you… I would take:

AP Chemistry: You love honors Chem + good teacher + difficult class = perfect
AP Macroeconomics: It’s relevant to your major so it’d be good to get some experience
AP US Government: Same reasons as AP Macro
AP European History: You’re interested in it and it’s a difficult class

I would definitely rule out AP Biology (don’t take it because it looks good) and Discrete Mathematics (AP Stats as a Sophomore is fine, actually, it’s impressive IMO)

That leaves AP Computer Science and AP Physics… If AP Computer Science fulfills a requirement, I would take that, but if you could take it junior or senior year, that might be a better year. Be prepared if you decide to take Physics, though… your schedule is already exceptionally rigorous and Physics might be the class that kills you.

Thank you. I think I am going to take computer science. Should I take out ap European and replace it with physics just because I talked to the teacher and he said European is better after us history and that is the jr requirement. Would Ap physics be too hard with this schedule or would it be manageable because I am interested in physics

You keep posting thread after thread after thread about your schedule, and we can help you to an extent, but in the end, the only person who knows best what the best classes for you is you!

If you want my personal opinion, I think you should take the classes that you feel 1) you enjoy the subject matter (at least to an extent) and 2) you will be able to perform well enough in the class that you can get a 5. Just remember: two or three 5’s on your AP tests is better than seven 3’s and 4’s. For some people, getting 5’s on more than three or so AP classes in a year is impossible. For some people, possibly you, it’s very possible to take all AP classes and manage to make 5’s on all.

I hope I didn’t sound mean, but truthfully, you are the person who knows yourself the best. Sure, consulting people on the Internet can be helpful for finding out about the classes, but when it comes to your own personal schedule, the people on the Internet are just strangers. They don’t know your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes, your personality.

I know you’re excited for next year, but you just need to take a moment, relax, and sit down with yourself (and perhaps a family member, counselor, or friend who knows you well) and write down what you like and dislike about each class. Look at what you’ve written about each class, and use that to determine which classes would be the best fit for your next year’s schedule. Good luck! :)

I’d take these 5 if I were you:

Ap chemistry- interest + good teacher = cha-ching!

Ap computer science - well you seem interested in it so why not?

Ap macroeconomics - one of the easier AP’s so have at it

Ap united states government- interest + good teacher = go for it

Ap psychology - easy peasy lemon squeezy
