Scheduling help for an aspiring Economics major

Would this be a balanced schedule for a freshman new to Cal?

Math 54 (4 units) - hopefully i get a 5 on Calculus BC
Chinese 1AX (3 units)
Economics 1 (4 units)
Salvic Language and Lit. 134A (4 units) - I love Gogol's works

and a P/NP (1unit) Seminar class

Would it be wise to take english first rather then Salvic Lang and Lit even though it will fulfill one of the breath req.

No reason to take Math 54. Unless you REALLY like math. Trust me, 5 on Calc BC doesn’t mean that much. xP

actually for the 101 series (econ 101a/101b) you need to have taken math 53 and 54 (you can take 54 concurrently with econ 101a) and you can take them p np but you have to take them . math 53 is a prereq for econ 101A so if you’re planning to take 101A spring 2010 then maybe take math 53 fall 2009

So it is better to take math 53 rather then 54 even though i get a 5

it depends if you want to do the 101A/101B track for econ and when you want to take 101A (because u have to take it before 101B)

What is the difference between 100A and 101A? Is there any difference in math?

econ 101A requires more math (specifically multivariable calculus) Econ 100A requires only the 16 series of calculus (i think) you should double check

Slavic Language and Lit. 134A is an upper division class. If you are an oustanding writer and have experience taking rigorous literature classes and writing 10-15 page papers, it might be OK, but I think most freshmen would have trouble meeting the expected standards their first semester.
