So sophomore year I can take either precalculus or AP Calculus AB. Of course APCal would be more challenging but then I'll only have 3 years of math in high school.
I have a similar problem with language classes. I'm taking French 3 this year (9th grade), and after that people can continue with either French 4 or AP French the next year depending on their grades at my school. I'm eligible to take AP but then I'll only have 2 years of foreign language credits.
Would colleges care if you didn't take the required or recommended amount of courses if you've reached the desired standard of proficiency?

Do what you want for French since it won’t be that big of a deal, but honestly unless you’re great at math, avoid the suicide option and go Pre-Calc.

Yeah, I didn’t even know you could skip Pre-Calc, sounds like you’d need it as a basis for Calc AB. With French, if you feel you’re proficient enough to go for the AP, I would do it. You can always do Latin or Chinese or something junior and senior year. But if you think an extra year before the AP will improve your grasp over the language, do that.
